Hydraulic power steering or Electric?

Featured Replies

Hi to all,

Does anybody know what type of steering system my petrol Octavia III 1.4L TSI 2016 is equipped with?

I'm a little bit confused cuz in OBDeleven the steering module reports an "Engine start through power steering" active function in long coding tab. (See photo)

I hope you can see my confusion here cuz i though i had an electric steering and im getting this active state of engine start through power steering.

Maybe the "power steering" also means electric power steering and it can work alongside with the starter motor to start up the engine. Don't know. IMG_6327.thumb.jpeg.93e173dff4bd41fae698749c159bfe36.jpeg

Hello, your vehicle is fitted with an electrically assisted power steering system. I believe that option, when active, will restart the engine if steering wheel is turned while engine is stopped.

It's all part of the stop/start system. The a/c is also connected to it.

This also make sense since there is ton of information on how start stop system works and i had read something related with A/C and start stop  somewhere.

Car manufacturers moved away from hydraulic power steering many years ago as electric power steering uses less energy and hence improves emissions figures.

Electric power steering systems also have the advantage of being a lot easier to make adaptive to vehicle operating conditions.
