Check Rear Reversing Light message

Featured Replies

Hi. Every time I put the car (it's a hatchback not the estate) in reverse I get a yellow bulb warning on the dash come on and a message saying "check right reversing light".
The right reversing light (and fog lamp) are both working fine - they're on the inner small cluster. They're LEDs rather than bulbs.
I wonder if it might be that the message is just incorrect and the fault is really with the left inner cluster - neither reversing or fog lights come on on the left, but then I can't remember whether the car only has reversing & fog lights on the left,

Could someone confirm whether the reversing and / or fog lights should be working on the left, and whether there's a known fault with the error coming up for the wrong side?

Cheers

Hello, welcome to the forum.

Are the LEDs a recent change - or are they OEM? Replacement, after market LEDs can often cause issues with lamp monitoring systems. UK vehicles are commonly not fitted with two reversing lights - or rear fog light on LH side.

Hi and thanks for the welcome.
As far as I'm aware they are OEM. I've had the car 7 years and never been a problem til now.

IIRC, the rear lamps aren't difficult to access from inside the trunk - if you can, try removing the indicated bulb and check the contacts on connector and bulb - is is possible that dirty contacts have created enough increased resistance to trigger the lamp fault even though the lamp is working.

My sums and your metadata say the car is 9 years old, so someone else would have owned it first.
