i saw a few posts with firmware updates, but not really sure how secure they are.
so basically plug in the USB C and leave it there
even leave it over night ? is the port powered up ?

Shouldnt take that long and if unit is running OK I wouldnt update firmware. Wont update anything without ignition turned to at least Accessory setting The USB C port is powered I think but the MMI obviously isnt, is it

  • Hey, a new version of maps have just appeared and MartiniB shared a link for it. The new archive is called OI_P129_EU_202448_Offline_Update and it contains a folder named OI_P129_EU_202448_Offline_Upd

  • I will call them too. I give you an update if I have success on my side

  • Sorry mate, I was totally confused on varsions and skoda site display names.  Pls take my apologies. I downloaded what u linked, and Ill try.    Now it seems I wanted to update the same

On the MIB1 it would take about 2hrs.

45minutes to 1 hour to download the update to the unit and then the same again to unpack it on the device.

As this is a forum for MIB 3 what happens with older units with different style maps and different upgrades is rather irrelevant The download time of anything is dependent on the speed of the server. I had a 50mbps internet connection and the AUS map took about 90 mins to download. I now have a 500mbps connection and it still takes the same time. So its governed by the Skoda server being slow.

The last poster is downloading the map updates via USB to the car.

Nothing to do with Skoda servers as they already have the files downloaded to a usb C stick...

Yes the files might be bigger than MIB1 but the hardware should also be more capable.

My point was, It should take hours rather than days to install

Depending on where you are it will take different length of time In Aus takes about 40 mins to load in the unit. My point was that what happened before has no relevance as in our case a map in a 2.5 unit was 25GB and took a long time to load , whereas the map in a 3.0 unit is 2 GB and so is much faster. Why the difference???. I seems the older maps were completely replaced and the new ones just have updates like Windows does on your computer and are much faster to load,

Downloading anything from the internet is governed by equipment limitations and if you get a fast server its fast if you get a slow one it doesnt matter how fast your end is as the slowest one wins

Yes but you’re talking about download speed from source whereas the question is on download to the car from the stick.

@RollySefu7 updating maps and updating firmware are 2 different processes. For maps you have nothing to tell you it’s done except when you check on the screen which tells you the navigation database.

The process works when the car is on so while leaving it in overnight is fine, it’s because you might as well leave it there for the next time you drive, not because anything will happen overnight.

Yes and the confusion arises because while this discussion is SUPPOSED to be about MAP UPDATES people who cant read that INTRODUCE FIRMWARE , for which there is a different discussion.. Wish they would stick to the subject. One is replying to a post and the other is relying to the thread incorrectly. Who know which is which. The two things will load into the unit differently as they are different sizes and probably totally different format which may or may not make that happen. Also while this is obviously a British site others from all over the world can see it and our units are often different to yours or others and so things happen differently. We have no Esims and cannot do OTA for anything. Cant retrofit it either .

Got nothing to do with it.

I pointed out you talking here about downloads from servers which isn’t relevant to updating info to the car.

The guy asked a question, we can just answer it rather than raise a point if order that’s he’s asked in the wrong topic
