Superb iV charging issue

Featured Replies

I just got a pre-owned Superb iV today and just tried charging for the first time and ran into issues.

I tried two different charging points (both at supermarkets as I dont have a charger at home yet) and on both occasions the light on next to the car’s charging port was yellow for a few seconds and then turned off, and nothing happened after. The charger did not seem to ”recognize” the car at all.

Ar the first place I used the car’s own cable, and at the second spot the Type 2 cable was attached to the charger. I’ve read about hearing some clicking noise when the charger locks in place but I’m not sure I heard that, but I also couldn’t get the cable out without unlocking the doors. Also the app seems to be a buggy mess so couldnt use that for my help.

So is this a user or a car issue?

Have you checked all the timers have been reset/turned off?  I find that you have to push the cable in in one swift motion. Then you should hear the clicks. The fact you had to unlock the car to get the cable out is a good thing. It shows the lock is working.

Assuming you were a little flustered and not wanting to try multiple things in the middle of a supermarket carpark.... Check the timers and try again.

There should be 2 buttons by the plug hole. One with a little plug end and one with a timer symbol. Try pressing the plug one next time as that should bypass any timers set.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Plug in. Look at light next to plug.

Starts yellow. If it stays yellow, it's not communicating with the charger yet. Wait.

If it then goes red, you have a problem, try unplugging and check you haven't got a bee or something stuck in your plug.

Otherwise:

If it goes flashing green, you are connected but there's a timer in place and it's waiting.

If it goes solid green, you're charging.

If it doesn't go on at all, buy a new car/cable/charger.

Thanks for the replies! Helps a lot to understand how the locking and the lights work.

Went to a third place just now and got the charging to work on the first go, so must have been a combination of user error and not-functioning chargers I guess.

Cheers for the help, luckily don’t need to do any car/cable/charger replacing :)
