Front springs for 2.0 tdi laurin and klement.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Was driving back home and heard something snapping. Stopped the car and found a piece of broken off spring.

Trying to figure out what replacement I need and I can't make sense of all the different info on the web.

Can someone please tell me what springs I need or how to find out.

The car is a superb 2016 2.0tdi FWD hatchback laurin and klement with no tow bar.

I just want standard springs, maybe replace the strut mounts whilst I'm at it.

I can provide the VIN number if needed.

Thanks

Clean the unbroken spring, and look for some dots of paint to establish the spring code. Buy 2 springs to that code, and Robert will be your father's male sibling.

I can do that but my concerns are

If the spring has been replaced in the past,it might not have the correct spring fitted on currently.

Also read something about the weight rating. Made no sense to me but the gist was the hardness of the spring.

I'll take the wheel of now and see what coloured dots it has.

If you’re in UK have a look at past MOT history, see if there’s any advisories for springs and if it stopped one year it might have been replaced already

But compare both fronts for confirmation

So, didn't need to take the wheel off.

Just lifting the car with a jack gave me clear view if spring.

First pic is off unbroken spring. The dots are blue and grey.

The second and third spring is the broken spring. Same dot colour.

So now that I know what colour the dots are, what's the next step?

Thanks

Forgot to add,it's a hatch back with a dsg gearbox. 150bhp

Thanks

Has part of the top strut mount broken as well?

Thanks. AG Falco.

I didn't check.

It's too dark now, will have a look tomorrow.

I only mentioned struts thinking if I'm replacing the springs might as well do the struts.

You could plough through all the relevant pages here, https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs to find a spring with matching paint marks.

Or PM me the VIN.

The second and third photos show the top mount (or bearing part of it) no longer at the top.

One blue dot and one grey dot means it's a 5Q0411105GM front spring...as shown in the Superb MK3 parts catalogue.

https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda/CZ/SUP/851/4/411/411000

One aftermarket replacement spring option is Kilen 25117. This spring is sold to replace two OEM part numbers, the other being 5Q0411105CG...so might not be an exact match, but Kilen thinks that it's close enough if indeed it is slightly different from 5Q0411105GM.

Front aftermarket front springs listed on autodoc to replace 5Q0411105GM (but not necessarily identical)

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/oem/5q0411105gm?search=OEN+5Q0411105GM

Kilen 25117 front spring (sold to replace both 5Q0411105GM and 5Q0411105CG front springs, so might not be identical)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192915631490

Sachs 993 905 front spring (sold to replace just 5Q0411105GM, so should be identical)

Thanks for the help,

Looking at the list for the mounts, Does it have to be the '5q0 412 331 e' that I need for my car or will the others work?  I mean the letters at the end, so will '5q0 412 331 D' do the job or will it cause issues?

Ok,

Makes a little more sense after looking at MartiniB previous post.

Quick question, I can't seem to find the mounts for 5WA 412 331 A  online. Is it a dealer only part?  Same with the bearing 5Q0 412 249 E

Thanks

(I don't know how to change the colour back)

Would you also recommend any after market Mounts + Bearings? Or best to stick with OEM.

Spoke to TPS,

They have quoted

108.74 including VAT on trade price for the mounts. for both sides

57.02 including vat for bearings for both side

Parkers have quoted £48 for both sides, forgot to ask what make it was. And it comes as one assembly to mount and bearing.

Any suggestions anyone??

Yet you are comparing prices for the top mounts.

If the damping of your existing struts is in any way compromised or if there is any sign of leakage its definitely worth changing them at the same time.

My experience is that the top mounts do not significantly deteriorate but the bearings, a seperate part although often bundled with the mount, frequently fail resulting in a knocking noise when turning the steering wheel.

I have only ever used the cheapest pattern parts available (usually Ebay) for the last 2 decades on the steering and suspension of 3 Skodas, only one problem once with a top mount bearing which failed prematurely, the myriad others and its replacement were all fine and they were all a considerable saving, the struts on the Yeti were under £30 including delivery from Ireland.

Springs I have only ever used Lesjofors but would be happy with Kilen as its the same product from the same factory and both are reasonably priced.

If I were paying a mechanic to do the work and if I were able to supply the parts (not a chance in this country!) then maybe I would consider paying more for percieved piece of mind, as it is my time has no cost and having to replace one faulty pattern part in 50 years I can live with.

I think I paid about £18 for a top mount and bearing including delivery, the bearing alone was not much cheaper so not worthwhile aside from when I had to replace the one that failed.

Hi,

I'm definitely changing the top mounts.

Was just wondering if oem or after market would be better.

Ill probably go with the after market.

Mechanic has quoted £120-140 to do both sides.

 5WA 412 331 A 5Q0 412 249 E were ordered from local VW dealer, 132 euros for both sides

have to agree @J.R.

replacement of springs, dampers or top mounts will cost almost equal,

better replace them all together

The dampers (shock absorbers) are £400 plus vat each. I can't afford that at the moment. Yes I know it's worth getting it all done at the same time, but that's just too much.

A check on euro car parts comes up with Munroes for £123 but it says it comes Without Electronic Suspension Control.

I'm assuming they not the right ones.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with the dampers (shock absorbers)

by your pictures aren't visible, they are DCC or not, maybe you can save a lot

if they aren't, i would suggest Bilstein or Koni instead Monroe

So reading on other forums I believe mines are DCC as I have 5 different modes of driving styles. The extra one being the comfort mode. I believe the extra option is only available on cars with DCC.

Also can someone tell me what DCC stands for.

I could be wrong though, so is there anyway of checking apart from taking the shock absorber out?

Hi all,

Thanks to Breezy_pete for confirming part numbers.

Mines are the electronically controlled ones Part number 3Q0 413 031AK
