New engine bay fuse box - engine management light & P0562 Code

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all,

I recently changed the engine bay fuse box in my Skoda Fabia 1.0tsi (2019). This was performed to solve an issue where the car had difficulty starting when overnight temperatures dropped below around 3 degs. I found the advice on here that changing the fuse box can solve this issue and thankfully it seems to have done so...

...however, I now have an engine light for code P0562 "system voltage low". There are no symptoms showing themselves for this code, no starting issues, no battery light etc. and I have driven approx, 800 miles since changing the fuse box. I have tried clearing the code and it will stay off for a few starts and drives but ultimately always returns.

Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated. I used an OEM part from Skoda for the replacement.

Cheers

James

James, I've copied & pasted my post from other thread in case you missed it and to get the ball rolling here. -

A cleaning of the fusebox and it's connections may (or may not) save replacing with new but a Dealership/garage/mechanic/auto-electrician may decide and/or charge otherwise.

Any electrical or engine starting issues I start at the battery (and fully recharge it even if the charge isn't too low as battery state of charge can help or hinder fault diagnosis and find resolve) and go from battery forward with checks at least.  A scan tool can help but it never fully rules out the basic checks that existed before them.

@roxby_fabia James, P0562 could possibly suggest that the basic checks haven't been completed or it might be an additional issue, if you also had/have a battery in a low state of charge then checking the car's alternate might be a good idea but of course with electrics you also have to check, wire, connections, parts/components, all need to be fully functioning and clean, secure and protected.  Also with error codes you need a scan tool appropriate to your VW model and year, at an appropriate level for fuller diagnosis, and the program for your model and year fully up to date otherwise you can be given incomplete or even incorrect information.

@nta16

Much appreciated and noted. Will do further checks and see if I can source a different scanner.

I have the car booked into a VW specialist in a couple of weeks but was hoping to find a solution myself.

Thanks again, will update thread once I know more, either from my own findings or from the garage.

I've no idea how good, or not, your local Dealership is generally or specific jobs like this but other members are also in parts of Scotland, whether same as you of course is a different matter, but may be able to advise you of places that are good or usually best to avoid.

If you are anywhere near the following chap I like the way he does his diagnosis and then checks it, not just relying on scan tool error codes, and checks and cross references things including his repairs.  Plenty of his videos will give the general idea and perhaps a similar or same case as yours (though perhaps not on VW). -  https://www.youtube.com/@mrautoservices7354/videos

I can't remember if I put this before but if not also have a look at this, Briskoda member that may be able to help to some extent at least (confirming error code if not more) most for beer tokens, some offering professional service so different rates. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com-vcp-owners/#comment-3091029

Update 08/11:

The fabia was at a local VW "specialist" over the previous 2 days. They called me on day 1 saying that they had cleared the code and were unable to replicate the fault. I did tell them it was intermittent and whenever I cleared the code it would come back shortly afterwards. They kept the car another day and there was no improvement. I had to collect as I need it this weekend.

The EML is currently off, however I fully expect it to come back on. If/when it does, I'm going to take out the new fuse box, clean all the connectors and re-install it.

I'll update again when I have more info.

Cheers.

Solved.

Happy days. Frustrated with the garage I removed the fuse box from the car to check my own homework. Despite taking photos of the wiring before I removed the original, it seems like I had 2 of the wires in the wrong slots (Fuse F7 & F8 I believe). I removed these connections and reinserted them as per my old photos.

Very annoying the garage didnt think to check my work as I stated on multiple occasions I had fitted the part myself, hey ho.

I cleared the EML after reinstallation and it has not reappeared since (this was on Saturday morning). I have done a few hundred miles since.

It also seems to have sorted the starting in cold weather issue which is why I originally changed it. Yet to have any properly freezing days yet though. Any questions about this just let me know. Replacement of the fuse box was relatively simple, using a bobby pin/ paper clip to disconnect the wires.

Well done, thanks for reporting back.

We've all done something like that even after double and treble checking our work.

As you put a bit bad that this was missed as usually any new parts and there installation is a classic area for faulty new parts or their installation, including by paid professionals.

If you want to you can do a guide, photos always handy to and put it on this forum or on the Skoda Fabia Guides. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/167-skoda-fabia-guides/
