Out of curiosity, how much experience do you have with writing code and upgrade routines for integrated systems and/or within the automotive industry in particular?

Discuss that with the accountants.  Mercedes have an 'ipad' in the centre console.  In design,  they insist on a smaller,  cheaper chip to save a few cents. The problem is it seriously harms the speed of the processor.

@Plobberwhy would size be the determining factor here? You can even connect to WiFi if necessary.

Well the car is connecting via 4G or 5G. That alone depends on the vehicle having optimum signal strength for the entirety of the download.

Some vehicles may be in areas with poor 4G/5G so might struggle to receive and/or fully download the update.

The update may corrupt if the signal drops during the download.

There are so many variables why some updates cannot be pushed out OTA.

As for connecting to home Wi-Fi, not everyone can or will do that. I personally don’t connect my Kodiak or any previous vehicle I’ve owned to home Wi-Fi.

I suspect there’s a bigger reason why Skoda want the update completed at a dealership. I’m sure they’d rather be able to push it out OTA than have to book every affected vehicle into a dealership with all the extra work that creates.

Not in automotive no. But why would that be any different? Even crappy Tesla's have been getting OTA updates for ages.

There you go... That's probably where it goes tits up.

There are ways to get around that. And besides that; there have been OTA updates before apparently. Even many for the Enyaq.

Then again, looking at the heeps of issues in this and other topics, there are bigger issues to tackle probably.

The point is that for whatever reason, Skoda don’t want to release this particular update OTA.

As I said, I’m sure they would like to have but clearly there is a reason they aren’t doing so.

Most OTA updates are for minor updates, bug fixes etc. This particular update is to fix a multitude of issues affecting all sorts of things.

It’s not as if all Kodiaq updates are going to require a dealer visits.

Yes it’s annoying that it’s not OTA and involves a dealer visit. I’d rather it wasn’t as I could do without the hassle but it’s just one of those things.

Nonsense about a couple of gigabytes in 2025. What's that about? In a 60k car it shouldn't be to hard or costly to mirror the storage with however much gbs would be needed. Or write updates that are modular and/or incremental so that it fits whatever is available. The automotive industry is so far behind.

I think you should get a job at VAG towers and show them how to do it. They obviously don't have a clue whereas you plainly know it all.

The **** has already hit the fan with VW Group and how easy Data has been available on vehicles and location and all sorts of infringements of the supposedly strict privacy laws in Germany.

& to think the Governments were worried about China.

Yes with all the crap that has been going on with the software you clearly need to have a job at VAG to properly assess the situation. As they are doing such an outstanding job of late!

There’s a huge difference between (to use my previous example) an update bricking an iPhone and rendering it or some of its features / functionality unusable, and an update bricking a car and rendering it or some of its features / functionality unusable. Imagine if you could update your iPhone whilst it is in use… any issues with the update might be annoying or break something you’re doing, but it would be highly unlikely to actually cause harm. Now imagine if your car did an update which caused issues whilst you were driving… what could possibly go wrong!?

So have Skodas and other cars for most updates. And you still can’t drive your Tesla whilst the software update is installing, which can take several hours for the larger updates - and, as I understand it, you don’t get to choose when it does these updates; so in theory you could park up at the supermarket and get stuck because your car is doing an update which you also can’t cancel once it has started…

I'm sorry all, I just could not stay away, and had to respond to this.

I've got a Skoda Superb Estate TDI 150 MK4, which is  the new one, and it had problems from day one, all of which are highlighted on here by searching posts made by me. I've spent over 12 hours on the phone being messed about by Skoda/Skoda Executive office/AA/Enterprise, in the process of getting the car returned to the dealer, and AA failing to pick it up when  and as promised, and the F*ckwits at Enterprise who think a small 3 door  car is completely suitable for an electric  wheelchair.... plus lots more...

I too have rejected it after buying it from Specialist cars in Dundee (Skoda)  and the reason I  chose a dealership over 400 ish miles away from me was because of the deal they did for me absolutely knocking spots off any other dealer in the UK. MY car has NO infotainment screen and NO maps. to elaborate I mean the central drivers display, there are maps available  via Android Auto on the main infotainment 13" screen, but nothing else. I  get the green circle of death rotating until it eventually disappears up it's own backside or the car is eventually reclaimed by Skoda to do what they will with faulty Skodas...I was told that the car can not be fixed as the software to fix it has not been written yet, and will most likely not be written for at least 5 or 6 months, if at all....... I  will be moving soon and my new house has a huge garage and an 11Kw wall box already installed, so Skoda executive office  have got involved and are swapping it for me, for a Kodiaq PHEV Sportline with parking and winter packages on it,  but I am still paying more than I was for the NotSuperb.  I am a bit surprised that on the Sportline you dont  get an electric passenger front seat nor the massage option that is on the NotSuperb.... Just asking here for anyone who has the Kodiaq PHEV, who might  let me know if there is anything that's not right with them, BEFORE I sign on the dotted line, which I have not yet done.

Thanks all.

I can't believe Skoda are now SO bad. After years of an improving reputation,  they are quickly becoming the skip on wheels they were years ago.

To be fair, it’s not just Skoda - pretty much the entirety of VAG is on a downwards trajectory.

@mark2jag

From what I know, if you go for the Sportline trim, the massage/ventilation option is not available for the Sportline seats. Yet, the electric passenger front seat should be available as an option.

This is why I opted for Selection trim here, in my country, and I added all the bells and whistles I needed, although there was a campaign for Sportline trim and the price would have been lower, but I really needed the ventilated seats for the upcoming summer (massage was a perk).

If you are allowed to customize your order (if that’s the case, although it might be a stock car), you should be able to add the electric passenger front seat or go for another trim that will suite your needs.

Anyone had this..... drove the Superb today, all well. Went to drive it 10 minutes later, got a message saying log in, your account has not been used for a long time. Put email and password in and then said unable to log in.

The Internet globe top left is dim suggesting not connecting to the Internet.

Can't get to radio, navigation or any settings.

Dealer says, might be Skoda server in Germany.

Anyone else got this problem

I'm really glad I didn't go for a new kodiaq! decided I didn't like the layout of the new dash so saved myself some £££ and picked up a facelift 2021 L&K instead. She's perfect, no errors, no issues, does exactly what it says on the tin. My last kodiaq (2018 Scout) was also near on perfect but when it comes time to change the current Kodiaq I may be looking elsewhere outside of VAG for it's replacement.

I have a mk2. It's great. No issues, no problems and far better interior than the mk1.

So glad I swapped.

  • 2 weeks later...

Brought the car to the garage for the software update last month to fix the ACC/Travel Assist issues but unfortunately the issues are back. Noticed on a longer than usual drive. This is very frustrating.

Car alarm goes off daily for no reason as well.

My issues were also not repaired. Yesterday the errors were beeping every 10 seconds during my 15 minute trip.

Also had an issue with an airbag error that was there for a day.

A month ago had an error with transmission which was gone when I stopped and restarted the car. But it was visible when they hooked it up to the computer. Some miscommunication stuff.

After the update the matrix leds are not working as they should and people are blinking as the lights don't black out the car. Was only partially fixed by the dealer.

  • 3 months later...

Anyone else still having issues with travel assist?

I've had ongoing issues since October, software was updated in January, a battery was replaced in May but still having issues.

Mine seems to be OK. 1 or 2 other niggles, the interior light just comes on by magic and the screen has crashed a couple of times, but the travel assist seems OK since the new software in December

Yup. Not as much as in winter, but it does happen.
