As expected it’s got a 2.0 TSI with 195kW and 400nm.

Meh. Not feeling the love, if I'm honest. And with the issues a lot of people seem to be having with their Mk2s, I think it's a hard pass for now.

It'll probably be an even harder pass when they announce the pricing for it...

What do you mean? I know the price since the first pricelist release of my dealer early this year - it would be 6K euro more than the sportline.

So they release pricing for unannounced models / variants? That seems a little... strange.

In any case, certainly doesn't happen over here in the UK - all we've had so far is stuff like this from Autocar: "Deliveries will begin next April. Skoda has yet to announce pricing but it is expected to start at around £50,000."

Yep, it is weird, but they had it since launch of mk2, with a small text underneath that the model will be available for ordering at for example Feb 2025. TSI 2.0 had similar text but it had July 2024.

I am waiting for the RS, just for the more capable engine. It would also add more of the performance/assistence options which I will order anyway. The price difference between the RS and sportline, according the pricelist, with the options would be 5k.

Though I am worried mostly of the ride quality with the 20's, whether the seats would be comfortable enough, and whether the blue metallic would go well with the red stiches and break covers 😀

(Reading through the forums, it seems there are many more stuff to be worried about..)

I’d be more concerned about the DCC issues with the Mk2 than the 20” wheels. I have no complaints whatsoever about ride quality. And as for blue going with red… goes perfectly well if you ask me, otherwise there wouldn’t be a race blue vRS on my drive 😂.

DCC and ride quality go together in my mind ☺️

Any complains of the squeezed out engine? Or the vRS as a whole?

It's a 7-seat Golf GTi (or Octavia, if you want to keep it in the family) with a boot large enough for a dog crate /and/ the shopping at the same time. What's not to like?

But as I've said before (and no doubt will say again), just don't expect it to be a sports car. It's a fantastic long-distance GT, and when it's just you, it can be a bit of fun. But it's still a large 7-seat SUV, so you're never going to chuck it around quite like you might a Golf GTi. And the gearbox is just mind-bogglingly frustrating when left to its own devices... never in the right gear at the right time to make real rapid progress, even in sport mode. Manual changes via the paddles are slightly better, but it's still not brilliant.

It's a nice to have, and I'm seriously considering keeping it long-term rather than changing it next year (more down to not wanting a Mk2 and not seeing anything else out there for sensible money that I'd want to replace it with). But having had a 150bhp Kodiaq before the vRS that quite happily spent a couple of weeks touring France (including up and down the Pyrenees), I honestly wouldn't say the extra power is a must-have in order to make the car usable.

Bear in mind I have a Mk1 facelift, not a Mk2... no idea if they will have changed the gearbox mapping in the Mk2 or not, but the engine is the same (albeit there will be slightly more power in a slightly bigger/heavier car).

Thanks for the good overview! I guessed it's MK1 - I saw the first non-skoda review of vrs mk2 yesterday from an auto-show car and it looks great imo.

I want to change my Mondeo to something with bigger boot and driving capability - family has grown, but I dont want something sluggish that will need 9-10 secs to get me to 60... Mk1 is not an option for me anymore, so waiting for mk2's vrs. It should strike the right balance of all I need + practicality. I heard the 2.0s are more than capable, but I do plan to drive it for more than several years and the difference in torque seems too big for just few more bucks. 🤔

Good thing they kept the black wheel trims. Dont like the full-painted RS/Sportline versions on SUV's.
