Problem with soundaktor in octavia 4 Facelift RS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

maybe you will be able to help me with topic of fake engine noises :)

problem is with facelift  RS model, i'd like to point out that i'm aware in pre-facelift you may turn it off from menu, or selecting drive mode, but in facelift this option were removed 😞

also vcds and obd11 doesn't support this facelift RS model yet.

of course asked in Skoda dealership but they said that cannot help with it.

is anyone got idea how to turn it off? i got a idea that maybe unplug cable from it phisically will be a good solution, but i'm afraid that this could push error on dashboard.

any ideas?

thanks,

Mateusz

From reading other threads here, the FL doesn't have one

Yeah I think it's not in the menu as it doesn't have one anymore, so the menu option isn't needed either

There was a reply on here from the guy at Skoda who worked on the FL Octavia IV who confirmed that the FL does not have the soundaktor.

are you kidding? i drive this car and i can hear that there is fake sound

Could be they changed the way how the sound is generated? And they replaced the soundaktor with the sound coming from the speakers?

@Mateusz-Warsaw   Welcome to the forum.

If things are different by Country / Region you will need to let others know once you find how to.

You can configure the "Individual" driving mode with everything set to "Sport" and with sound effects (or whatever they are called) set to "OFF".
If there's an option to have any kind of sound effect set through the driving-mode setting - it means that the car HAS some sort of artificial/fake sound - either from a soundaktor (which I also know is gone on the Facelift Octavia), or directly through the speakers.
If you don't have a sound option, then there's no fake sound...

BTW... go online and look for the User Manual using your VIN - it should be quite easy to find the details you're searching for...

I was told different and was asked at a service if I wanted it turned off.

This is only for the facelift RS, it hasn't been out long enough to need service yet has it

I think this is spot on. I did a lot of looking into the subject of the fake engine eon the facelift model, as I was close to placing an order.

Skoda UK confirmed that the facelift model does still have electronic engine noise, and it is clearly listed in the UK brochure as standard equipment. Recent review from EVO magazine says "To improve sound further, it even now comes with a sports exhaust system as standard, with synthetic speaker sound now less prominent”

So I'd say Ultearunner is right, the soundaktor has gone, but the electronic engine sound is still present.

Don't get me wrong. I would still expect to be able to turn of the fake sound. Same as it was possible in the mk4. I'm really happy I was able to turn if off completely on mine since I got a new exhaust. :D

Driving my FL VRS for the last 3 weeks - no sign of electronic engine noise on this version (Ireland). And no option to turn any sound on/off in drive settings either. Which is great as I did not want it!

We've got one UK car mag saying no pumped in sound, one UK mag saying it has but it's less prominent, Irish cars having no pumped in sound, no mention of pumped in sound of any of the car review videos on Isle of Man but several references to the exhaust, and Skoda UK saying there is one adding to an 'orchestra,' along with the brochure saying it has one. Some of those things (looking at you brochure/Skoda UK) have been wrong in the past about what is included or not for the variety of different markets, and on multiple iterations of MK3 onwards (I don't know before MK3, as I've only purchased cars from MK3 onwards); UK folk who use the forum will hopefully find out within the next couple of weeks when delivers land. Like @TheUltraRunner suggests, he may have the best of both worlds; have a car he likes and pay for a good exhaust system to be fitted (whilst turning off the tinny noise box)

There is definitely no sound actuator as others have said and confirmed by the chief engineer. I am on the fence as to whether some of the pops on the overrun in sport mode are fake coming through the stereo. I’m not 100% sure but I’m pretty certain you get them in sport mode and in no other modes (even with dsg in sport settings). Either way it hardly matters, it sounds much better than the mark 4.

Are you sure it's not just the new sports exhaust you are hearing...... Similar, at last, to what is fitted to the Golf GTi.
