I think, something is wrong with my new rear brake pads, help, please...

Featured Replies

I replaced my rear brake pads and discs. After few 1000's of miles discs are still worn just a little, as you can see from picture, there is still paint left on disc, (fig1 on picture).

Also, when i drive slowly on stoney road, I can hear rattling from pads. When I release electronic handbreak, I can freely move pads, there is quite a lot of movement up and down. Pads are TRW ga8135fg from vw parts dealer, so rhey should be good for my car. But for me it looks like the gap on fig.2 on picture is strangely big. Any help, please?

Reasonable to believe they have fitted the wrong pads - looks like the ears of the pads aren't right for the caliper. Try any of the major brake pad catalogues to get to the correct part number and fitment for your engine and year. Sometimes there will be multiple choices - it helps at this point if you can find the correct three letter code (for example 1LK or 1LM or 1LU, maybe) in your vehicle documentation. Used to be on a sticker in the boot but later came as a sticker in the vehicle handbook. ERWIN can tell you the exact build codes for your car for a small fee if you have no record anywhere of the codes for the brake sizes.

I can't find any fitment for Skoda for GA8135FG after a brief search. May be different for your country.

You have misassembled the wire spring - it should go the other side of the ledge on the carrier bracket, as shown below. No need to ask me how I know!

@inspectorman , thank you for your reply! I probably sorted my problem now. Pads should be correct, I've found similar pads here, with same number: https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/3q0698451m-brake-pads-rear-ate-ceramic-30850.html

@D402 thanks a lot, You are my life saver! I was able to adjust springs through the wheel and took the car for short spin. Now I even think brakes are more responsive. I owe you a pint! 🍻
