Will it start?

Oh, and for the second time I HAVE left my car for almost 4 months over a freezing winter, and it started first time without issue.

We leave our car sitting on our driveway for months too while we're in France, never given a thought to it not starting and it does every time, that's on a 6 year old battery in our Karoq. Like you in many years of driving I've never had a battery issue, and my 10 year old Focus when I sold it was still on its original battery.

@sussamb Hoorah!

So the far south of the UK mainland.

But then the same might apply in the furthest north of the British mainland or even the northern isles.

Exactly mate, and that’s all I was saying but one or two people on here got a little over excited and took exception to my comments.

Very odd behaviour🥴

I think come 27th December, I'll see if it will start and if it will, will go out for a nice drive in it for 45-60 minutes which should replenish the battery.

Being old school and remembering when starter motors and alternators used to fail more regularly, I've always turned off Stop/Start whenever I drive the car, so I hope that may have helped.

If it won't start, I'll find the charger in the garage and leave it connected overnight, so hopefully it should be good to go the next day.

I will report back here and let you all know how I get on!

Cheers,

So have you just not turned the key to find out, save some faffing about when you do eventually try and it gives trouble?

OP explained originally that he didn't want to further deplete any remaining charge by starting engine while he was unable to drive vehicle to recharge.

Putting it on charge with the battery charger he says he has, for an hour or two once a week, between now and when he can use it again would do the battery least harm.

He hasn't managed that yet, still hasn't retrieved the charger from the garage.

My Point, if he gets the battery hooked up now (with help of course somehow) it'll be ready to drive.

I realise he hasn't yet done it, it's just my suggestion of the best plan of action. 👍

Exactly what I do matey, turn off stop/start before each journey.

You shouldn’t be getting battery issues after a few weeks without use, that’s all I was saying buddy, but certain idiots on here took exception to it.

If your car is under warranty see what the Dealer says, because modern batteries should NOT degrade so easily, despite what those self proclaimed experts say🙄😂😂

Us idiots took exception to your insults which continue despite the apathy we have developed towards you.

Calm down mate, it’s boring now🙄🤣🤣

Oh, this guy is still going? Deliberate provocation several days later followed by “this is boring now”…

It’s such a shame this forum doesn’t have a ‘vote to kick’ function.

Does it?  Super, thanks😘

Perfect, thank you - I’m new here and didn’t realise this was a thing!

Mods deleted his previous nasty comment, but I unfortunately did get to read it on my email.

People vote with their feet. I suspect half of this forum have him on ignore and judging by the amount of time he spends on here making friends, most people in his life do the same.

Sorry mods, I’m done now, I promise. Everyone on here is lovely, but there’s always one.

You're right, Occy245, there's always one.  And it does look as though he's the one.  But when enough people realise it things do change. And, yes, the IGNORE button is there for those that have had enough of his provocation.

Provocation.  Brilliant🤣🤣

🤣

Ok ok here’s what I’ll do, I’ll disable my account so that the certain idiots on here ( you know who you are) can continue with the mind blowingly boring chat that has crept into this forum over the last couple of years.

When I joined in 2004 it was a vibrant, light hearted and often interesting place to be, now it’s just dull and full of thin skinned idiots who wouldn’t know banter and humour if it slapped them in the face.

So, it’s with a not very heavy heart that I’ll call it a day, and let all you boring idiots get on with your mundane boring posts.

To the decent ones on here (you know who you are) best of luck.

Bonjour😘👋

Bye. We'll miss you.   xx

Don’t worry - I’ve found everyone else to be very helpful and constructive. A bit of debate/disagreement is healthy, however when it becomes pointless mud slinging, it ceases to be constructive. There’s also nothing wrong with banter or humour, but again, that member failed to master the art of comedy.

Frankly, for someone that joined the forum before I was old enough to read, I would hope they’d know better.

I also won’t be deterred by someone that signs off with a French greeting 🤣

I think @Warrior193 made a very sensible suggestion that AFAIK could be implemented without much bother.

There is the option of charging through the 12 volt socket, with a suitable adaptor, if unable to open the hood for access to the battery.

But at the moment, I think you've got more than enough to worry about without giving a thought to whether your car will or won't start.

Get well first, and then think about sorting it out. 👍

Hear-hear, wishing you a good recovery and enjoyable festive season.
