Anyone using the AAWireless 2 adapter (2024 version)?

Featured Replies

I'm considering getting one of these as I much prefer using Google maps to the inbuilt nav, plus I use Spotify quite a bit whilst driving.

There are a ton of options out there but it's the usual battle of trying to determine how many of the positive online reviews are genuine 🙄 So I'm just wondering if anyone has got the new AAWireless 2 adapter and if so, is it reliable? I don't want to have to deal with constant dropouts or keep having to reset my phone, etc...I just want to set it up and forget it.

Im using this one, have had it 2 or 3 months now with no hiccups

I've been using a AAWireless Two for the last week or so. Not had any issues yet, seems pretty quick to connect and is completely stable/lag free so far :)

Can someone explain what this thing does or better still correct my interpretation of what I think/hope it does below:

I have a Chinese head unit with built in shatnav but much prefer Waze on my Samsung phone, the small screen is dangerous for me though (blind in one eye), the head unit is Windows not Android but has USB connectors.

I am hoping that this unit can be connected to a USB port on the head unit and allow me to view and also program the Waze phone app on the head unit touch screen.

Will it do so, is the above correct?

It enables wireless android auto on a headunit which already supports android auto.

If your headunit doesn't already support android auto, it won't do anything I'm afraid...

Am I right in thinking that it's possible to update the firmware on the adapter via the app?

Thanks, I thought that might be the case.

So Android Auto is normally cabled, is that correct?

I'm asking because in time I will change the head unit, there are a few things I dont like, the shatnav that will take you to a field in the middle of nowhere if you choose the centre of a town (it takes the geometric centre of all the dependant communes) the touch screen that sets itself off in cold weather, reversed door open icons (inability to change), are some Android Auto head units already wireless?

Correct, when it first released it was only wired. A later upgrade added the wireless functionally. Depending on the age of the headunit, it may support wired only or indeed both wired and wireless.

There are both OEM and aftermarket headunits which support wireless android auto without a dongle :)

I don't know which version I've got, but I bought it at beginning of this yea (The square-ish one) and it has been fairly reliable over the last year with the exception of one day in November when it randomly crashed and after wasting an hour factory resetting it, then giving up and continuing on my journey, it randomly started working again and so has touch wood hasn't missed a beat since.

Just as a follow-up, I ended up going for the AAwireless 2 and it's been great...doddle to set up and it's worked without any issues.

i've been using the first gen AAWireless for almost 4 yrs now - its been flawless, no issues, no lag and so easy to use with my Columbus MIB2 (now MIB2.5 unit).

i hear the second gen AAWireless doesn't add any new benefits unless u want easier switching between users/phones.

hence i'll continue using my current one.

I've been using a AAwireless 2 for about 2months, at first it was great, easy to setup and connected everytime without fail. However over the last week or so it just fails to connect, the blue ring flashes on the AAwireless device and the "smartlink" text just stays displayed on the screen.

Just wondering what other people's phone (addriod version), year of vehicle and if maybe a software update on the car would help resolve the situation? I've got a Pixel 9 Pro, the Superb is a 2017 and from what I can tell it hasnt had any software upgrades.

I had AAWireless the very first patch. Wifi chip died after some months, was replaced under warranty (very fast) and now working ever since.
