condensation on inside of windows, takes ages to clear even with aircon

Featured Replies

Squeezy / Detergent / Washing up liquid in water works as an anti fog as well to help on the glass inside.  Like we might have used on our swimming goggles when young and there was nothing else.  Well other than spitting, but you need a lot of spit for a windscreen.

I cleaned mine earlier as driving me mad every morning. Proper glass cleaner then Autoglym glass polish.
It's probably a mess as it was dark by the time i was trying to buff the polish off, guess I'll find out in the morning....
Might try some IPA next time to break the greasy crap down.
Looks like it might be 'sunny' tomorrow so think I'll leave the windows cracked open all day and give it a good airing.

If you're using a glass cleaner (or Autoglym Fast Glass glass/hard surface cleaner) you shouldn't need to use Autoglym Car Glass Polish as well, one or the other.  As with all cleaning and polishing the secret is not to use already dirty cloths, pads or microfibre cloths (same with synthetic or real chamois).  A lot of people use something already dirty to 'clean' the inside (and out) of windows ultimately making matters worse.

I very occasionally (when I'm asked/told to clean the inside of the screen ) use Autoglym Fast Glass on the inside of windscreen and very, very occasionally (rarely) use Autoglym Car Glass Polish on the outside of the screen, also using it on the wiper blade 'rubbers; (elements) (a job made a bit of a PITA by VW with the need for their their 'service position').

For the outside of the rear window and its wiper (arm, blade and 'rubber' element) I use a cleaner/polish others don't believe in, been using it very successfully for many years on this car and others, and same stuff when very, very rarely I cleaned the inside of the Fabia's hatch window glass.

Another thought, not sure if it has been mentioned before, check the cabin filter isn't damp, (unusually) very easy to do on a Mk3 hopefully same for the Mk4 but I can't remember.  Obviously if it is damp you ned to find out why.

Not as easy on a Mk4 RHD as a Mk3 RHD but hopefully not difficult or too awkward.

I changed my pollen filter at last service back last Sept. Its was either £8 or £40 odd if the stealers done it! So £8 it was. It was a posh Bosh one.
Pretty easy to fit, just getting the cover aligned again was a pain. Quite a lot of swearing if i recall 😆
Cleaned the glass twice as struggled to break the greasy crap down, was much better this morning and had the windows cracked open all afternoon at work.
Its going to be like -4 C here in the morning so see how it goes getting moving...

Just a quick note on this topic ....

are any of these glass cleaners, like Autoglym, without perfume?

I always have to avoid all cleaning products, especially the motor products, with a scent as my wife has a severe allergy to (all) perfumed products.

Makes life hell sometimes!

I don't remember Rain-X Anti-Fog being scented, but that just means I didn't notice. If you want a plain glass cleaner, simple Ajax only smells (mildly) of ammonia and not of some chemical "parfam".

Our MK4 steamed up the other morning, it cleared just as quick as our previous Mk 3, ready to drive off in a couple of minutes?

I would have thought it was easier on a Mk4 - at least there's now no need to scrabble under the dashboard.

Perhaps it's 6 of one and a half-dozen of other, I've found some gloveboxes a pain to remove and/or put back, Sod's Law is often involved such as the one in my neighbour's car that was very easy and quick to remove and replace first time and a right fiddly pain the next time for no good reason.

The Autoglym Fast Glass has a mild smell, I've no idea what as I'm not good with smells and colours but it has what I would think of as a cleaner type smell, possibly added for the very purpose of smelling like a cleaner but I've no idea. Autoglym Car Glass Polish smells I think like ammonia.  I've not noticed any lingering smell after use but I'm not sensitive to smells or than some paints and glues those I can't stand and can give me a bit of a headache.

Much might depend on where the particular car is parked and the position it's parked in and what's kept in the car perhaps.

6 screws to remove a glovebox on the MK3, but you don't need to remove it to change the cabin filter.

Just two tabs to push out of the way and you're in via the passenger footwell.

Thanks. AG Falco

Yes I found that (unusually) very easy and (unusually) easier than on, the few other, makes and models I've dealt with for cabin filters.
