Car fine - charging not… cannot get the car to charge at a scheduled time. Will only charge immediately so missing out on Octopus 5 hour cheap electricity at night. Any thoughts ? Thanks

Have you looked at the settings in "C" on the screen?

Yes @Bowdie IOG is six hours. One extra advantage to intelligent is if you ask for a full charge early enough in the day they will generally either schedule extra slots in the morning when energy is plentiful or extend the charge past the 05:30 cut off (providing the ready by time allows). They will try their best to give you the charge you requested but obviously not guaranteed, this is why they ask you to plug your car in as much as possible so they can help balance the grid.

Thanks our screen looks like this

When you set the times in the schedule make sure your target percentage is achievable within the time you set, otherwise it will charge outside those times as well.

Checked on Octopus tonight and it seems that they can now communicate directly with the Elroq so you can go to Intelligent Octopus even if you don't have a compatible charger. I tried to change over as the cheap rate is 1.5p kWh less than Octopus Go + you get an extra hour. Changeover didn't go that well, so I'll try again tomorrow.

Your screen is showing "charge immediately to 50%" so if you car is less than 50% when you plug it in, it will immediately charge. We dropped ours to 20% as we're not likely to go below that.

How did you get on the next time you tried 🤔

Try plugging the car in and then leaning in and pressing 'Stop charging' on the Infotainment screen then lock the car leaving it plugged in. The octopus app should recognize that the car is plugged in and send instructions to the car to start and stop charging

second time went ok and the car charged ready for when we asked. I'm not sure how long it took for Octopus to take over. It's already plugged in and a charge schedule set by Octopus today, but next time, I'm going to try timjfw5's suggestion

  • 2 weeks later...

Since we got our Elroq at the end of May and driven 2000 miles around the south and northwest, I haven't seen another on the road or any adverts on TV! Several people have asked me what it is or mistaken it for an Enyaq.

This week I guess the supply must be improving and another boatload must have arrived recently as I've seen two (1x85 and one Sportline) on roads near us, and seen three TV adverts for 'Skoda Electric' about a family having an electric charger fitted and then moving into a house which actually features a Skoda Elroq if you freeze it and look at the car.

We've had our Elroq since 28th March (great timing to avoid the expensive car RFL supplement) We've done about 4000 miles around the South West of Scotland and I think we've seen three, although I think one we've seen twice as it's local. The local one is Race Blue and the other one we saw was Timiano Green. I fancied Timiano when we ordered ours but daren't risk it as I hadn't seen it, so went for Velvet Red instead. Timiano's quite nice when you see it in the flesh.

Our's went in to the dealers this week to have the towbar fitted. Not sure why I didn't order it with the car. Must have been a senior moment. The towbar is exactly the same as the factory fitted option, except that its about £400 more expensive. The good news is that, after 4000 miles, I still can't find anything bad about it.

We are also very happy with it in almost every regard.

The only thing I still haven't got used to, is that I have to push the gear select forwards to reverse, and pull back to go forwards. My brain thinks it should be the other way round.

I searched and found an explanation which relates back to race cars with sequential gearboxes where the accelleration forces the driver backwards so making it easier to move the gear shift back to go faster, and decelleration makes it easier to push forwards when changing down. This was propogated into nearly all retail automatic cars and has remained ever since as the standard.

I still have to look at the selector and think before setting off though, I sometimes wish I could prise the switch out and reverse it!

The Kia e-niro we used to have bypassed the problem by having a rotary knob for gear selection. cw = forwards, acw = reverse, centre = park/neutral. My brain was happy with that.

I pick up our 85 Edition on Wednesday 🤞it’s felt like a very long three months…

It does seem strange. Previously our XC40 was the same so we sort of got used to it. On the theme of getting used to it, when we took the Elroq in the get the towbar fitted, they gave us a Seat Arona. It had a noisy, smelly engine thing in the front and an old fashioned DSG lever between the seats. It was a long journey home as most cars we couldn't catch and the one we did catch we daren't overtake as we didn't have 3 miles of clear road in front. To add insult to injury, we had to put petrol in it before taking it back. I guess the point I'm making is that some things are easier to get used to than others🤣🤣

Awesome, how you getting on with it so far?

Just got home with it, very pleased so far.

Plenty of performance and extremely quiet, comfortable seats and plenty of space front and back.

Brakes are taking a bit of getting used to but are effective in stopping two tonnes of car.

Also has been delivered with all of the contents of the packages - I’ve read that some seem to not to be getting all that they are expecting but that could be down to not understanding exactly what items are included in the various options…

Need to go through all of the settings and set up how I want it, haven’t tried any of the assist options yet. I have noticed the speed warning is very quiet, I’ll have to check if there’s a volume control for that.

Awesome, sounds fantastic .

Wirth regards to the brakes, I have heard they are drums on the rear even on the VRS which is a shame. A car this big should have some solid boots. Saying that on our Model Y i barely use the brakes due to regen braking which works so well

Yeah drums on the rear but as you say with regen you barely use them so discs on the rear could corrode very quickly.

They are fine it’s just the feel that’s different, in D mode the first pressure is regen then when you press further that’s when the braking actually starts. Absolutely okay just different. I’m sure I’ll get used to it quickly, already starting to get a feel for the B mode in traffic.

I waited three months and it seemed to take forever for it to arrive but I am sure you’re wait will pass quickly and you will enjoy when you have it 😊

The rear brakes get so little use on an EV, the 'sealed for life' rear drums on MEB cars are a very good idea. Just Google Tesla Rear Brake Corrosion to see why drum brakes make sense on EVs. FWIW, after you get used to the slightly spongy feel to the brakes in MEB cars, the brakes are fine and do not lack power - just press a bit harder.

While on the subject of brakes, my VW ID.4 (MEB platform the same as Elroq) has only 10% pad wear on the front brakes after 4.5 years and 56k miles. So you guys can expect the brakes to last and last.

I was just about to order the elroq last week but then found out about the government grant so I think I will wait a few weeks to see the prices drop a bit .

Have you looked at the Škoda website and their grant guarantee scheme?

What did you order?. Did they say how long you'd have to wait? I think it has to be delivery after 1st September for the grant, so you'll get a 75 plate.

Curious goings on with the towbar these days. In the price list it states that the towbar isn't available with the Plus, Advanced and Maxx packs. Not entirely sure why, unless it's to do with the electric boot. I guess if you opened the boot using the switch on the drivers door while you had a bike rack and bikes on the back it would make a mess, although we had a Karoq with the electric boot and the switch was disabled while anything was plugged into the towbar. Although it says it's not suitable in the price list, the configurator lets you add both. We had the same factory towbar fitted aftermarket by our local Skoda Retailer and they never mentioned any issue with the Maxx pack. Fortunately, we never have anything but a trailer on the back so the boot would open ok anyway
