Front Assist not working, but no error messages appear.

Help!

My FA doesn't work but ACC & LA do. No error messages so only found out while not paying attention! While having other work done the garage didn't get any fault codes about it either.

Lots of posts, videos, etc. about fault and warning messages but nothing about fault without warnings.

TIA

Hello, welcome to the forum.

What leads you to think that Front Assist isn't working on your vehicle?

If Front Assist is inoperative for any reason, ACC will be de-activated as FA sensor is critical to its operation.

Thanks for responding. That was my assumption and being a sensible driver I wasn't expecting to call on it.

However, while it behaves well in ACC I have had a few incidents in normal use when I got too close to other vehicles at speed without response. I've had it kick in when test driving other Superbs so I know what to expect and I drive other vehicles with it too. On mine I get nothing on close approach, let alone braking.

All the boxes are ticked on the menu, I've tried deactivating and activating it, the health check says all is OK. I'm dreading it being a dealer only issue as my local one was very unhelpful when I had an Octavia a few years ago (and they charge £168ph!).

I have a scanner on order for future use which may tell me more, but this kind of fault ought to have shouted about itself.

Could it be that you were already reacting to events at the time? clutch, steering and throttle inputs will all override FA.

Doubt it. I'm a good driver but not that good.

The warning hasn't triggered once since I've had it and went on a long drive yesterday to force it. Again, ACC worked and kept its distance but when off, I was able to rush up to other vehicles regardless of the distance setting.

As predicted, the OBD check came up clean so stumped right now and may have to go to the dealer, but first I'll look for an independent specialist and see what they say.

There is no distance setting unless when the ACC is activated.

Not sure if it applies to vehicles with ACC - but do you get the 'Following too Close' symbol that appears in the trip meter display when you close up the gap to the vehicle ahead?

No, that's precisely the problem, yet on ACC the car will slow down and stop/start. Even if the bulb for that symbol was faulty I would expect the brakes to activate.

I drive two other vehicles at work so I'm very familiar with the system. One of the Superbs I test drove had a faulty radar and it wouldn't stop flashing and beeping.

Remember this is always active by default every time the car starts, so I think I've gone past the "is it me?" stage, but always happy to be shown otherwise!

In the infotainment settings is there not an option to change the reaction times from Early, Normal, Late for FA?

Tried them. Even did a factory settings reset to clear any hidden settings.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I'll just have to keep my eyes on the road for the time being...

Did you resolve this. I have exactly the same issue with my 2022 Superb!!
