Approved used - "free" MOT?

Featured Replies

Yet more hassle with our dealer - just booked car for its first MOT and I'm certain that the Approved Package it was sold with included 2 services, 2yrs warranty, 2yrs breakdown, and 2 MOTs.

Dealer flatly denied the MOT was included and asked if I had any paperwork to show it was included.  I recall asking for this at the time and being told not to worry about it, it's all online.  Of course all that's online is the service package (and that shows 2 services unused, even though I've used one).

Anyone else been through this?  I know it's not a big deal, but this dealer has an almost revered reputation locally yet I've had too much hassle with both them and the car.

Hmm...well I did take a PCP to get the package and the deposit contribution, but then withdrew.  I've withdrawn before on new VW Group cars, but the sales guy suggested it this time.

He assured me the package would remain unaffected, however I see there's a note right at the foot of that page:  "4. Two free MOTs (if due) available at participating Škoda Retailers. MOT certificate must be presented when paying for your MOT. Valid for Solutions Personal Contract Plan customers only."

So I wonder of you have to keep the PCP going and they send you a voucher at MOT time?

MoT certificates have not been issued for the last several years, on which basis this clause is invalid.

^^^ They mean 'Their Certificate.'   Voucher.,.

Like you get from ARNOLD CLARK when they give a Service & MOT deal for Free with Used cars.    Proof of Purchase Certificate.

There must be members hear that bought Skoda Approved and the 2 year offer with PCP, and can say about the 'Certificate' they received.

In advance of going in for the MOT I'd emailed the sales guy we dealt with.  He read my email within a few mins of sending it but didn't reply.  Called him a week later and he said of course the MOTs are included and he would sort it out.

Went in today and was asked how I'd be paying.  I said I won't be as it's covered by the package that came as part of the deal  The service advisor looked at me like I was trying to steal £50 out of her purse.  Found the sales guy and he said he'd sort it.

On leaving, I wasn't asked to pay and I asked about the next MOT.  Service manager / supervisor type person said he'd sort it, and the sales guy then appeared and I asked him if I'd been dreaming about the 2 MOTs being included and he threw a curve ball which was that they're only included if they fall within the 2yrs of package duration.  The service manager latched on to that and said they've had that happen with servicing too - yet that shows on the Skoda app as having a 4yr expiry and it has on other VW service packages we've had  - I assume to cover people who use longlife servicing.

It's all a bit moot as once the warranty and roadside cover expire in August I'll buy All In if we still have the car,  but its frustrating that a simple thing results in a disagreement.

Unbelievably, but somehow unsurprisingly, the same thing happened today.

I thought I'd swerved the Approved Used MOT issue by buying All In. Took car for MOT this morning and was asked how I'd be paying. I said it's covered by All in - "nope" said the service receptionist. She could see a service plan, but not that MOTs were included.

I showed her the All In email, and even that the separate amount was being taken from the bank to pay for it - it's separate as there's no VAT.

She then said she'd reduce the price of the MOT so it'd only cost me £40! I asked if we were being filmed for Candid Camera or something. She started to put pressure on me saying the slot was booked and if I didn't agree I'd miss it!!

In the end, as the MOT slot was approached she said she'd do it if I absolutely guaranteed that I'd pay if VWFS didn't pay them. I said OK.

On completion of the MOT and a wash, she handed me the paperwork and, keen to have the last word, told me again that she'd be calling me tomorrow if VWFS wouldn't pay.

What a shame you don't have any phone signal tomorrow

The dealer called at 9AM on Tuesday saying VW had confirmed payment to them.

I made a point of telling the service advisor that I'd spoken to VWFS the previous afternoon and they said they'd spoken to her for a second time at 10.30 the previous day and confirmed they would cover the cost. That was an hour before I'd left the dealer so there was absolutely no need to tell me I would have to pay if VW wouldn't. This service advisor has history of always having to have the last word.

Funnily enough I haven't had an invition to do a customer saltisfaction survey - but I may well contact the service manager next week (he is on holiday this week) and suggest he might have a staff training issue.

Wash?

Wash’…..?

Wash was lost in Covid times for my main stealer, along with the biscuits and even the boiled sweets……

They did a pretty reasonable body wash and interior vac. Although, as usual, they only did the upwards facing edges of the wheel spokes which have a nightmare narrow multispoke arrangement. So half a turn of the wheels and they look awful.

I normally refuse dealer washes, but it's wife's car and, with living in a semi-rural area, it was looking pretty yucky.

I used to fill in the customer satisfaction survey our VW dealership caused to get handed out, on behalf of my wife, a bit like p'ng into the wind, but it can make you feel a bit better for a few seconds.

These surveys are well designed, no chance of any carp heading "their" way, just a pity that the same effort is not put into product design/manufacture.
