New Superb 2.0 TSI 265 p.s - some questions and impressions

@MarkyTDI thanks for shearing this. When I had to do the research and decision what car to take - Superb 3 with Continental turbo and possibility to be tuned easily, or Superb 4 with horse power decrease and not so easy to be tuned. That petrol engine with 265p.s is presented in Audi A5 since 2022.

The reasons why I picked up Superb 4:

- This year, I turned 40 years as an person. Till now, i did not tune any car that I had. Why this? I never drive like in a race.

- With the current Octavia 3 and petrol engine with 190 p.s is more than enough for me. lacking of comfort when I need to drive more than 500 km for the day, is the issue with that Octavia. It's a bit noisy, the climatronik control is not very good especially during the hot summer.

- I prefer t have more comfort instead of horse power, the power that eventually i will use lower than 10% of my time.  265p.s are more than enough to travel in safe.

- I had in the past Superb 3, with 2.0 TDI 190p.s, and am pretty aware what to expect from the car as comfort, interior and exterior.

- Superb 4 is on another level, than Superb 3 in terms of comfort, noise etc. Just the fact, it's coming with 4 windows that are doubled with noise cancellation.  Build in additional cooler for the DSG, even you do not order it with a hook for trailer. Better noise isolation , interior materials etc are much better for Superb 4. The seats are much more comfortable than these in Superb 3.

- The prices for Superb 3 280p.s used for one year or less, it is close to get brand new Superb 4 265.ps

- By the book, Superb 265p.s is with 0.3 seconds faster than Superb 3 280p.s for the distance 0-100. For the distance 100-200 Superb4 is slower by 1 sec than Superb 3. In real life, you will never find that 1 second as an issue, or 2-3 seconds, I think.

That's why, for my case, I preferred to go with Superb 4.  Will see in the future how it will perform that Superb 4. as of now, will keep and the Octavia, just for any case 😉

@Ootohere thanks for sharing this. I have the same in the book with the instruction.  Driving within 3-5k rpm .... for a brand new car, with less than 10 kilometers on the clock ...

  • Last time i heard that excuse was when A-76 was not sold anymore and Moskwitch owners were panicking because they could only buy A92 or 95E fuel...   i have ran all of my cars on 98E only, f

  • Yeah, indeed. Octavia is a budget car for the fleet's in some companies. Let's say, for middle level management. Superb is totally different car. I had in the past Superb 2 2.0TDI 170p.s man

  • Until now, I have driven 10,000 km without any issues, except for the DCC noise. I haven’t had any problems with the particulate filter, nor have I seen anyone else experience this issue.

No way should that be required on a new car.

It took the early cars from around  2018 with a GPF till about Covid times to have issues and high RPM etc, other than the odd 1.0 TSI Octavia owner that mentioned it on here.

If anyone interested S3 Facelift DNFE engine (2021+). In reality, this engine with continetal turbo in vanilla state gives over 310 hp and almost 430nm (gearbox limit). Almost getting on Golf 8R/Arteon R levels.

Maybe similar differences between paper vs reality will apply for Superb4.

@palad1n for Superb 4 that is mirage. just because, the turbocharger is different. It's smaller than Continental. And that comes with pros and cons.

@Rigor is there any chance to get different view here. Instead the rest millage to refill, just ti be current petrol level?

@DasSkoda When i asked from the dealeri was told that no. The lower bar should indicate fuel level (quite poorly tbh), and intended way is to look at the milage remaining and decide based on that.

Okay, thanks for the clarification.

Tbh, it's poor design.

Does anyone experienced issue with the front lights?

When they are on, and it's dark outside, they are lightning just a couple of meters upfront of the car.

This Friday, will visit the dealer to add mud flaps over all  sides, and also will check and tune the front lights, if possible.

What is the recommended engine oil that has to be used in your countries?

That is for 2.0 tsi 265p.s.

With the 2.0 tsi 280 it was 0w30. Now, it s pointed to 0w20?

You need to look at the VW code, not these numbers.

508/509 is the standard.

I can find only 0w20 motor oil.

Which is odd.

Why is it odd?

VW 508 00 / 509 00 is 0w 20 FS IV.

The 0w 30 FS III was to VW504 00 / 507 00

Fog Lights / Front Fog lights are for use in Fog to light up a short distance in front and not to stop you seeing with glare coming back at you.

For others to see you, and the dipped headlight lights the way if used.

I ultimately went with the diesel (193 hp) for better fuel economy, but I seriously considered the more powerful petrol version also. From what I see, the diesel engine is strong enough, but the DSG transmission programming and throttle response make the car feel quite sluggish if I'm gentle on the gas. Then, suddenly, it kicks in with a strong jolt, and that’s when the power really comes. However, the range between sluggishness and excessive jerking is quite narrow. Is it better in the 265hp petrol variant?

  • Author

Dunno.

I need to reach at least 5k km, one motor oil change, before see on what is capable that car.

From my other car, Octavia 190p.s 2WD and DSG, performing very well from 2.5k to 6.5k rpms. No lag, no sluggish

When I press the gas pedal, just goes straight ahead. Do not stop, like a diesel after 3.4k rmps.

But, the petrol consumption is different as we can understand.

Am expecting the same from my Superb 265p.s. To be fun when I'm in mood, and it's safe to drive like that :)

Update on a front lights issue that I had.

The lights can be adjusted from the dealership.

Now, they are working fine.

What octane rating petrol is required for the 265PS car? I pick up my new Superb L&K 265PS 4x4 on Monday.

All EU / UK cars are just 95 ron minimum.  So that is E5 in the UK.

You might as well go E10 so 97 / 99 ron minimum.  It is up to you.

  • Author

95 ron.

I personally will do, on every 2-3 petrol thanks, will put one with petrol with 100ron.

I do the same for my other car 2.0 tsi 190p.s, and no issue till now.

6 years and 85k kilometers on the clock.

@DasSkoda  It would be good if you show what country you are in.

Why not every tank for the higher octane and more detergents?    What is every 3rd tank achieving?

Sainsburys E5 Super Unleaded is 97 ron min, so that can be 99 Ron, or even 100 ron as 99 minimum can be.

Depends what Greenergy or the other suppliers have got in at whatever prices. Especially winter time.

Bulgaria.

From the dealership told me, that they d o not recommend high octane to be used. They observe issues with sparks.

That's why, will go with that approach.

Have you read the Owners Manual?

They know very little about little.   As it is German Winter fuel is 100 ron.  Parts of Europe 102 ron.

They as in who you spoke to seem to ignore the VW recommendations for GTI,s / R,s.    But then that is common.

Shell V-Power might be considered as best by some in the UK, even when not.

The fuels are not the same from the same brands around the UK, as ESSO shows regarding theirs. Different Depots / Storage / Ethanol.

TSI,s love ethanol IME.

VW have published this for many many years now.

98 Ron Super Unleaded has not been available in the UK foe more than a decade. It is 97 or 99 ron minimum.

95 ron E10 might not have 10$ Ethanol in the UK.

I've been trying to find evidence of an improved additive pack in Sainsbury's Super Unleaded, but I've never seen any to confirm this.

Sainsbury's don't make any claims for it, which IMO is either Sainsbury's missing a trick or keeping their mouth shut on a deficiency.

Tesco Momentum has an excellent reputation, so I'm not sure why Sainsbury's wouldn't want to promote their fuel if it was in some way outstanding.

Hmmm. That does not sound very convincing. I wonder what the issue with sparks is?

@EnterName  Simples, Sainsbury just guarantee 97 ron minimum, which is good, and at good prices.

I do not want an Additive pack / detergents which is why for special occasions i bought 102 ron track fuel.

Carless Hiperflo 250  Just double the price of the best Tesco Momentum 99, but great with the right map. 'Vital Equipment'

You used to get 102 ron BP at a filling station near Knockhill Race Track.

You get 102 pump fuel / Shell near car factories and tracks in Italy.  & Shell ran adverts with a F1 on Pump Fuel, not showing it was 102 ron not 98 as was sold in the UK back then

Sainsburys Super Unleaded can be Tesco Momentum 99 if Greenergy deliver.

They buy at the best prices,

Greenergy produce & supply to most of the ESSO filling stations in the UK, hence the difference in Ethanol content in some areas of the UK.
