Strange sound from the ventilation

Featured Replies

Sorry to jump on your post, but I'm also interested in this.  I had it in my 2019 Sportline+ and also have it in my 2023 one.  I also get a clicking from the ventilation system for about 20 to 30 seconds when it's warming up which I assume is some sort of expansion.  I'm a bit reluctant to take it to the dealer in case they have to strip the dash and I don't want rattles afterwards.

Hi,

Do you mean this kind of old haunted castled creaking door sound?

I've this too for 2 weeks. MY18 TDI190 / 131000km in the clock...

Not tried to fix it yet...

I get a barely noticeable version of this when I turn the ignition on, the system turns on and the hinged flaps revert to where they’re meant to be.

In other words, I’m assuming it’s where these flaps are moving about depending on where the air is being directed to. Not sure whether or how the hinges/mechanism can be lubricated though.

I  have the same analysis. 👍

My 2019 Superb did this intermittently on initial start up from about 3 years old.  It was ok when I moved it on 12 months later. I had no faith that it would be covered by the extended warranty under the wear and tear VWFS get out of jail clause.

Someone fixed this recently, can’t remember who but just needed silicone spray somewhere in the vents to relube it

Mine has done this for ages. It's the air flaps that direct the air. Haven't figured out how to fix it. I've tried spraying lubricant but it's hard to get it where it needs to go.

I have this clicking also I'm my 2024 superb.

It's having it's 30k service in a few weeks so will ask the dealer but if it needs anything taking apart to fix it, I think I'll live with it

Yes, volume up the music and problem solved :)

Mine makes a constant whirring sound, when turned on, coming from the fuse box area. I assume a relay so should probably get it checked before the warranty runs out!

Its the mechanism inside the vents, my 17 plate did it ( not as loud though) i think you can spray stuff inside to cure it.

I have this noise on "cold" startup as well, and I need to address it.

For detailed information and visual explanation - which I plan to follow as well - scroll down on page 173 of this thread, and its followin on page 174.

I do not really recommend to abandon maintenance, if the "grinding" of the mechanism due to poor lubrication ends up in a sieze or a breaking of components, the result will be the dash out and it will be much less pleasant than just squirting some lube from the ventilation hole ....

Hi, just wondered if you had your service yet and the dealer resolved the issue?

Yes it was last week.

They told me it's a "common" issue on the superb , "It's a feature not a bug".

but that there's no easy solution to it.

It's just a heating noise as the heating system warms up and some parts expand.

On my car it lasts 30-60s once warm air starts flowing & I didn't want them to take anything apart in the dash to investigate it so I will just live with it.

I guess it won't get better because after 1 year it's still the same.
