storing second key

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Can you store second key long term without battery?

Will it reset itself or will it work ok lets say year or two without a battery?

Thanks.

It will be fine my second key has been sat in a box for seven years and still works fine 👍

I asked the dealer a few years ago this very question - predictably they suggested it wouldn't be wise to store it without the battery!

I do know that if the stored key battery expires then a new one pings it back into life without any drama.

Technically a stored and undisturbed (recent style) Kessy fob with the motion detector gizmo shouldn't run down, but they do, about every 12 months.

best to alternate keys, ie use key1 with a new battery for 1 year then use key2 for 1 year with a new battery

the key not in use can sit with the year old battery in it just in case you need it and the key being used always gets a new battery

this way you spread the wear on the expensive to replace keys
