Software Update - under warranty part of recall

Featured Replies

Just booked my Karoq in for a it’s oil and inspection service at Marshall Skoda MK. Service person said it was due a software update that would be done under warranty and it was part of a recall action. I had the option to refuse if I signed a disclaimer- couldn’t see any reason to refuse so will have it done. Tried to find out what it would affect, told it was a control module so I’m none the wiser. Being in the IT world software updates usually list all the things that will be rectified (hopefully) by the update. Anyone else had this in the last 6 months?

Could Quite possibly be the update to ensure the car will not lock itself when the keys are still in the vehicle but you are outside the vehicle?

I guess you've never had an "sidedate" for Mickeysh@ft Windoze then? ;)

🤔 well that particular OS did cross my mind, but the software I worked on, with quarterly releases, our customers expected and received detailed documentation of every change whether it was an enhancement or fault rectified.

The MS updates usually do list all the things that are fixed or changed. Though you do have to go looking for it.
Automotive SW is different in that it has to be implemented to ISO26262 and MISRA-C and all changes have to be documented.

That is normal in industrial software less so in stuff going to consumers, though usually you can, eventually, find the information.   However it does tend to be less details than the sort of thing you are referring to.

Defo the update to ensure that you can’t lock your keys s inside the car…

Mine was updated 5th Feb at its service interval

Anyone know if there's any way to find out which vehicles need the update ? I guess its not a true 'safety recall' ( Although maybe it should be! ), just a 'service campaign' so it wont show on the VOSA site

To see if your car needs the update, just try leaving your key in the car. Make sure You have the spare handy, just in case. How do I know this……..!🙄

If this is an important update, it may need to be done by a dealer, as there could well be a requirement to log that the update has been done by a Skoda dealer. I've had at least one update where this was required.

Booked in for service, which will include the software update. Also, will change fob/fobs battery/batteries. One flags up warning in dash, but the spare might as well have a new battery, as well.

Still can’t get the fob to open up, so this Luddite will let the experts do it!😀

@Choclab our dealer checked for software updates on my karoq last week, but nothing came up. Bought it last October perhaps it doesn’t fall into the group that needs the update. Interestingly, as of last week I cannot touch to unlock the car so now have to unlock it with the key fob, the same goes for the boot, but I can touch to lock - very frustrating. I’m hoping to get it booked in for a check - fingers crossed it’s just a recoding matter.

Ours doesn’t respond easily to ‘touch open’ but seems to be happy if I just pull on the handle - however, that said, it does constantly lock / unlock whilst I’m washing it, especially when water from the hose runs past the sensor.
