Fabia Mk3 cruise control retrofit to SE 1.0 MPI

Featured Replies

Hi,

Recently purchased 2018 Fabia SE 1.0 MPI pre face lift with a view to swapping out the "speed limiter only" stalk to a "cruise control and limiter" one with the mode button on the bottom. Seen a few replacement stalks on E-bay but I want to be certain it's the right part number for my car before fitting and taking to Skoda to do the activation code.

There are two "Genuine Skoda cruise control kits" currently available on E-bay. Both come with an activation code CD. One is advertised as part number 6V0054691B for £149 and the other is 6V0054800F for £135. Will these work or do I need a different part number kit?

Looking on previous threads it seems the choice of right part is linked to the BCM number of the car? How do I get this?

Any help confirming the right part number would be welcomed. Also anyone got experience or know what Skoda typically charge to do the activation code? I'm waiting on a quote from them.

Thanks in advance.

So Skoda want £144 to code the part! But they can't confirm either of the part kits above will work and can't give me a correct part number as one isn't available!

Maybe I should take a punt and if it doesn't work I'll get a refund from ebay under their compatibility scheme. The guy selling it says it's compatible.

Have you seen the results from following search and wirer's 2017 article (links at end of post, note I have no idea how good the article is but his other stuff seems to me as if it might be good. I don't think, but don't know, that a 2018 would be different. Note you will need an appropriate level scan tool for coding and turning off airbag light, with that you could also get loads of info on the BCM and other modules.

Do not start messing with the VW (over) complex and intertwined computer programs and systems unless you feel confident that you're competent for the work involved as the old GIGO can be particularly cruel, back things up for safe return if required.

No one is going to confirm and will be reluctant to deal with kits from sources they know nothing about.

IIRC (always doubtful) there was a fairly recent threads or posts on this change, not sure if Fabia Mk3 or other model and I can't recall the details.

HTH.

Thanks nta16. I had looked at both those threads and while they are encouraging in as far as it's possible to do what I'm trying to achieve they don't confirm part numbers for my particular car. I think I will take the plunge with an ebay part and then cough up the £144 to get the dealer code it in. At least they can reset everything if it doesn't work.

So the stalk has arrived. Time to fit and book an hour of ODBII shenanigans with the local skoda dealer.

Stalk fitted. Took 30mins and all came apart easy. Would say that there's an extra clip underneath that needs prying open to take out the old stalk. This isn't mentioned in wirer's instructions.

Still looking for someone local to code via vcds. I'm in Stirlingshire, Scotland.

The coding for CC is done via SWaP/FeC and can only be done at VWAG approved locations such as the dealership.

If its other things you need coding via VCDS I could potentially help next time im up that way.

I'm interested in this subject. 👍 I posted one of the threads in nta16's links. My daughter's Fabia is a 2014 1.2 not a 1.0 but that also has two options of switch. But they are different from yours. From memory I thought the difference in part number was whether it already had a speed limiter fitted or not. The BCM (body control module) a box behind the dash also needs to be able to support cruise control. On some cars with very basic electronic equipment like manual windows and no MFD (multi function display) for example, you might need to replace and code the BCM also which is an expensive item.

I won't be seeing my daughter's car until August or September to fit the cruise control but I'm interested to see how you get on with the activation part. We have a couple of places down here in Cornwall who I'm hoping might do it. The local Skoda dealer refused to help unless they did the whole job.

I have VCDS so I can do any coding necessary but I will need access to Odis and its live connection to Skoda HQ for the activation. Good VAG independents in your location should have Odis so it's worth asking them. You might do better than dealer prices. Good luck anyway and please do post your experiences to help others. smile

I may be wrong but, I am fairly sure on the Mk2 Fabia you do not need the dealership to do the coding, You can just do it with VCDS.

You’ll need to fit the stalk (which, has different part numbers to the Mk3 stalks) and run a wiring harness from it to the ECU, then just code with VCDS 😊

My mistake. It's a 2016 not a 2014. It's a MK 3.

Just comparing online and it looks like the 6V0054800F part is for cars without MFA/MFD and the B version I presume is for cars with MFD. https://www.super-parts.eu/6v0054800f-cruise-control-without-on-board-computer-function-skoda-fabia-iii/

stalk parts are as follows

I used 6C0 953 501 P on my Fabia and it works fine. It has the MODE button to switch between cruise and speed limiter, and no buttons on the right hand stalk for the computer.

6C0 953 501 P / 6C0 953 513 F

Suitable for vehicles with cruise control and speed limiter. (no on board computer controls)

When using part 6C0953513F IGI instead of 6C0953501P IGI, it is also necessary to replace the mounting plate (6C0953223) and the slip ring under the steering wheel (6C0959653).

6C0 953 513 C / L

Control levers under the steering wheel for vehicles with multi-function indicator and cruise control (no speed limiter, onboard computer controls for vehs without multifunctional steering wheel)

6C0 953 513 G

Suitable for vehicles with speed limiter & cruise control, and onboard computer controls

B version is for vehicles with just speed limiter, avoid this for cruise control 😊

Hi all. Car is booked into Skoda Stirling for this Wednesday. Will let you know how I get on. FYI I bought and fitted the 6V0054800F stalk. It currently works for speed limiter but the mode button does nothing. Fingers crossed I'll be cruise controlling my way back from the dealers on Wednesday afternoon!

Dropped car off at Skoda and an hour later they ring to say the code I have with new stalk has already been used. They can't order me a new one as the VIN isn't compatible with the cruise control upgrade code. So I have to collect the car without cruise control. Have I just got a rubbish local Skoda dealer or am I trying to do the impossible here?

When I went to my dealer for the job, I paid for stalk + coding altogether. Unfortunately, they fitted a faulty stalk which made my high beams not work, but they refused to accept this and put it down to incompatibility.

I fitted my own stalk and everything worked fine, they refunded me and apologised that my “vehicle isn’t compatible”.

As long as your BCM supports CC, you could order a new product yourself for them to fit. Part Number I used was 5E0 054 800

Skoda are ordering me a new code for £20. They will try it tomorrow when it comes. Annoyed that the part I bought from e-bay as new, clearly wasn't new.

So how do I know if my BCM supports CC. It's a 2018 SE 1.0 mpi 75bhp.

I can’t remember the exact BCM part numbers that support it, I’ll have to try dig for them, but generally if the vehicle already had a speed limiter and has front assist, it’ll support it.

Really though, The skoda dealer should’ve checked this…

Just for info- My Daughter's car does have the speed limiter and front assist and the BCM on hers is part number 6C0 937 089 C. I plugged in my VCDS to find that part number otherwise it should be stamped on the physical part but you would have to remove it from behind the dash.

The kufatec retrofit website only states;

  • On-board power supply control unit with part number 6C0 937 085 X must be replaced (X stands for any letter)

From this, I gather than any BCM 086 or above would support the CC. But I cannot confirm for definite.

My BCM is 089 D and definitely does.

So what year / model is your Fabia?

I have a 2017 Monte Carlo, 1.2 TSI.

I suspect the MC & SE L’s will all have the correct BCMs for cruise, given the base level of tech you get with them. SE and S on the other hand is where it’ll get tricky.

Colour edition comes with Cruise (but no speed limiter) as default.

So I can finally report that it worked! My 2018 Fabia SE 1.0 MPI now has cruise control!

The dealers only charged me for the time they spent on coding it rather than the flat rate and £20 for a new authorisation code. Hats off to Skoda stirling. They were reluctant to do it because thier order system said my car and the CC upgrade were incompatible. Glad I persevered. Thanks all for the help and guidance.

Good stuff! Obviously more helpful dealers up there in Scotland than down here in Cornwall!
