What is the PDC kit?

Featured Replies

If anyone like me interested in what the parts are.
I got hold of a full original kit for the UP I got an accepted offer near £130 so tidy price. 1S0054630
I also picked up facelift controller if needed which is for 1S0054630B, instead of using 1S0054630 which may be only for the navigon unit earlier car, as far as I can work out so far I think this is the only major difference ( hopefully) for just over £20.

Which is a lot less than I've seen online or able to be supplied for the facelife kit so taking a bit of a gamble.

3 harnesses:
1S0971065D main bumper harness

1S0054733A extension harness for connecting bumper to ECU (round 8 pin to square 12 pin)

1S0054733 brown 16 pin connector for all the important connections

+3 sensors and sensor brackets and other bits to complete.

If it works out will progress this further.

Loads of further useful links might be of use to anyone? Might do more pics and a sticky if I get any interest but have to be quick ( can't do bumper as I've just bodged the up loom in there, its like its not really going to fit a citigo but not aware of a citigo version and just going with the basis of hope this all works.

Installation as per guides above this is roughly how I managed to do it so far:

1/
Bumper removal: 4 plastic retaining screws from underneath, very small spline from your toolkit
One each side screws bumper to wheelarch

3 or 4 under the tailgate
unfasten the number plate light temporarily

2/
Use a sealey VS318 to cut pre drilled holes, the required locations are left marked taped up at factory
UP harness not quite same so move the retaining clips a bit then fasten in place and attach to sensors ( after you painted!)

3/

Pull the bumper wiring extension through the rubber grommit and with original harness for rear plate light

4/
Mounting controller and speaker:

Parcel shelf out and other obstructions
plastics need to come off. starts with lower mid pillar then you can remove the closer c pillar
They are just force off carefully but with 2 bolts on the one nearest you which only see once middle one is off
Remove rear seats - middle link out then push out the remaining side retainer for seat to remove both top pieces.
Remove bench - just force on front clips - horrible plastic connectors which likely will break and need replacing I think. One came out of the hole lol, the other loop came out without plastic but I think is broken so doesn't hold the seat down lol. They are just terrible.
Front left side trim out a bit enough to feed wire along too

Speaker mounting is a location mounting on highest c pillar plastics above ( almost hidden inside wing lol, pretty crap)
with a small black connector clips into the can harness
Controller has the protruding nuts you can mount it on with supplied nuts. Also the earth part unclips so you can add your loom earth to existing.

5/ lay the canbus wiring harness across down the left of the car, pull under carpet to middle well

6/ remove centre console as per links above, middle pulls towards you then about 6 splines out.
Pull out the gearstick cover with a flat
Remove the connectors to TPM and power, the TPM one release tab is on the left

undo velcro covering airbag module and release/unplug it ( battery disconned)

The solo wire on its own splices into the orange/red or similar on the power socket.
2 canbus ones go to the well taped up airbag loom which needs to be unravelled, just like for like colours to be spliced together.
Pretty simple wiring t.b.h

Coding on module 10 and possibly 5F I've yet to discover but have beeps already

Coding mostly solved, but could do with some small assistance but visual lines also showing. I think from diagnostics and rear parking all the sensors seem to be operating I think.
As it was already warning when you are getting close and very close

Now found following some adaptions it is come up and working correctly ( sort of)!

I now have display lines that work along with the beeps.

At some points it says "OPS is not available" I think each time the car stops/ starts - but still carries on and displays parking sensing anyway!?!

Also after taking out of reverse it doesn't automatically immediately remove the sensing, I think it does momentarily if you move though so not sure if there is further coding for this.

So 90% working with some minor gripes

The coding I assumed from
"VW Up 2012 - RVC and PDC retrofit - nothing on the display

Adaptions are not good I think:

ENG122227-ENG117496-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc,activated ,60

ENG122227-ENG117500-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc_after_disclaimer,activated ,60 - set to NOT activated

ENG122227-ENG117497-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc_clamp_15_off,activated ,60 - set to NOT activated

ENG122227-ENG117498-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc_over_threshold_high,activated ,60

ENG122227-ENG117499-Car_Function_Adaptations_Gen2-menu_display_pdc_standstill,activated ,60 - set to NOT activated

ENG122229-ENG117710-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-parking_assist_0x0A,not activated ,64 - set to ACTIVATED

ENG122229-ENG117711-Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-parking_assist_0x0A_msg_bus,not activated ,64 - set Terminal 15

Test reset radio and let us know! "

The ones I turned on were menu_display_pdc ( did this before but didnt get anything), plus the threshold one, and the 0x0A were ones I didn't apply or couldn't apply for some reason before but now activated.

May need some more experimentation depending on how much it annoys my wife.

OPS error disappeared overnight and if you take out of gear it clears the screen after a few seconds so all good now

This is what its like

Good stuff, yes I know that doing this to your car costs quite a bit, but if like me you felt the need to add that to a car, then why not, I did this to my slightly used 2011 Audi S4, I didn't think much about wanting/needing front OPS - that was until I bought my wife a new Polo SEL and it had front and rear PDC, so I just had to have that on my car.

Ten years on, everything still working as intended, the only weakness for my car's version of PDC is that if I drive, for instance, into a parking slot with a wall/fence ahead of me, I can't expect the front sensors to "arm" - I need to remember to use the "parking switch" - luckily I discovered that before stupidly hitting anything.

From car starting when parked in a confined space they will "arm" but not when just driving from an open/clear area into a confined space, also once "armed" for instance carrying out a multi point turn around, they will remain "armed" until the car ground speed exceeds a certain limit.

I've put that down to my 2011 Audi S4 having an earlier version of this sort of system.

Cost a bit not really - well not in my case as the kit was around £130 (new), bought a second hand "B" module for just over £20 as the kit as mentioned came with module A electronics which is for earlier cars ( I still have that available for sale I guess, it only works with the navigons).
Good value I thought for a full wiring kit no messing about. Some are selling about half the wiring you need but seems overpriced, brand new wiring seemed worth getting the full kit.

The £20 or so I paid for the sensor cutter even sold to get most back ( if I need one again, will buy again ).
So call it about £150 even though I bought 2 modules, module A and B for newer and older cars?

I had a fair indication of around £550 for fitting, long distance to them though and would also have had to say over + fuel, so also quite a commitment if not same day ?
Already had OBD for coding. Also learnt the basis of the procedure - not as hard as other electronic stuff I've done on cars to be honest !
