Hi all,

Picked up the car today. All went smoothly. As predicted I have some niggles...

  • The car doesn't appear to have wireless android auto, it pops straight up when I plug my phone in, but I want it wireless. I have a AA wireless box which worked perfectly on my old car... But it seems very temperamental with this car... I think it's something to do with the USB port always being powered... I have changed some settings on the AA wireless box... Any pointers welcome. (It's plugged into the usb in the central arm rest section, the usb c in front of the gear selector seems to be (slow) charging only).

  • I haven't quite figured out how to see what software version I am on... Which specific line am I looking for in that factory menu?

  • I can't seem to get skoda connect to work... The car gets stuck on setting me as a primary user. Which is a bit annoying... Any tips?

There will be more questions! I appreciate all your help so far, and in advance! Thank you!

G.

Early MIB3 units did not do wireless natively.

They didn't have the appropriate hardware.

It only came a bit later.

Ur best bet is to stick with a wireless dongle.

The USB port at the front (phone box) should definitely b data enabled.

It's not charge only.

Yep, happy to stick wothua dongle, I've had really good results from the AA wireless box with my last car,so as long as I can make that reliable, it'll be absolutely fine.

That's odd about that port. It doesn't seem to have any date aspect at all... When plugging my phone in it just charges, and when plugging the AA wireless box in it simply doesn't work... No lights, nada.

Sorry for all the spelling mistakes in this!

In my experience strange things happen if you haven't got primary user setup correctly.

To do so I'd do a factory reset first then go through the setup procedure ensuring you have both keys and a verified account.

Thats a good idea..! Why didn't I think of that... Thanks @logiclee!

I actually have three keys.... Is that weird?

I bought my car in October 2024 and I still haven't been able to get Skoda Connect to work. I tried many times when I first had the car and Sinclair Garage in Swansea asked me to arrange to take it back when they contacted me to ask if the car was OK after I bought it and I informed them of this problem. I didn't bother at the time as it's an 80 mile round trip to Swansea and I waited until the next service was due, which was in June this year. They tried to connect but they also failed and so they contacted Skoda. Skoda then investigated and they said the car will need to go back. As we are currently selling our house and we're going to be away for 25 days in August, I've had to defer the remedial work for now.

It's a shame it doesn't work with a long trip coming up to Lithuania. The maps are still as originally supplied and are dated June 2023, but they're not updating online until I get Skoda Connect working. To compound the problem, I've tried downloading the map update, but the download constantly fails partway through with the message "Network error". I've tried all the fixes suggested but still no luck.

The next step I'll try is when we're in Lithuania and I'll try in the apartment we're renting or at one of SWMBO's relatives.

It'd be nice to have the latest maps, but I know the road fairly well, having driven many times before and there haven't been many changes, apart from the road from Suwalki in eastern Poland to Kaunas in Lithuania, but that's easy to follow as it's just a dual carriageway/motorway upgrade and there's only one main route to follow. From that road, go west and you're in Russia or go east and you're in Belarus, so I don't want to go to either of those!

3 keys too. 1 for me, 1 for SWMBO, 1 for when the car is left with the garage (and sits in the fireproof lockbox which will be Faraday-esque) when not in use.

Was the USB port in pre-FL models data for wired Carplay? Or just power given data upload to MIB was through SD card? Wonder if this was a hybrid model with a mix of tech on the switchover from pre-FL to FL if so...otherwise if it was usable for you guys then forget that...

Yup, pre-facelift, MIB2 or MIB2.5, USB-A port at the front is a data port, does both CarPlay and Android Auto.

If factory fitted with the additional armrest storage USB-A port, it too will also b a data enabled.

Both will b data enabled.

Would look something like this....

Facelift with MIB3 - I'm not sure how it's setup USB wise apart from the fact that early models could not do wireless natively. That came later.

Ah ok - so if OP’s not getting data then sounds like that needs to be looked at.

MIB3 is USB-C data, optional USB-A in the armest as you say. Can’t remember how it looks on that media page - but I use to have one of those tiny thumbnail-sized 64Gb USB drives in the armrest port and that came up listed as the name of the it as named in Windows etc. Guess the C-port would just come up the same way but I’ve only ever used it for MIB firmware updates or charging the phone when it’s low as the wireless charger gets so ridiculously hot. Outputs pretty well too for power tbh

Right. So. The plot thickens...

I did a factory reset as suggested. Weirdly, the first time I did it, it retained the users that I had set up... I then did it again and it deleted it leaving me with only a guest user. I logged in to create my user and the same thing is happening, trying to become the primary user just doesn't work, it just says "loading" and never loads... I wonder if it's a software update thing... Attached is a pic if the version I am on which I fear is the most up to date..PXL_20250725_201650247.jpg

Maybe I'm just gonna have to go to a main dealer and see what they say... My closest main dealer is Kidlington, Oxford... Last time I used them they were staggeringly unhelpful... Maybe they have improved...

Next issue, Android Auto.

After the factory reset the USB C forward of the gear selector started passing data. I have a AAwireless box and a AAwireless 2+ box... I decided to give the 2+ a go as the other was being a bit temperamental... And I'm having the same problems with that... I have been in touch with AAwireless themselves, let's see what they say... But good news that the port is passing data again!

I have noticed that the car seems to sometimes require me to select Android auto from the options of AA and mirrorlink... I don't care about mirrorlink, can I disable this somehow so the car just autostarts AA?

Having said all of that, even though I don't have all the settings dialed in etc. I'm loving driving the car, just need to get all the infotainment nonsense sorted...

Any help hugely appreciated as always!

Thanks,

G

You have software version 324. I never spent any time on it.

Basically since 2021 its been: 278 (awful and nothing worked) - 306 - 308 - 324 - 330 - 332.

308 was needed to update after (i.e. you couldn't go from 306 to 330) but you could skip after that. I went 306 - 308 - 330. Painlessly done.

Go to this link: Travs' mega.nz site and there is v332 in there. Its safe (there are a couple on here) its just a free ftp site for file downloads. Download and unpack v332 into the root of a usb drive and extract it - there should be 2 folders, DATA and META (I think from memory but don't worry if I've got that wrong). The files will be about 4 or 5Gb so an 8gb stick it fine.

Plug it into the car, turn the ignition on, after the MIB has turned on, press and hold Menu button until the MIB reboots into Engineering mode (black screen, red writing) and there should be options there to update - all touch screen still. Some options need a 2nd touch (1 to select, 1 to confirm) and then it should just go through the update itself.

Navigation:

I see you also have 22.6 navigation data which is old (2022 Month 6 I think is the date format).

Go to this thread: here and you should have a link to 2025.02 (25.2).

This is where you'll need a 64Gb usb stick as the data is marginally too big to fit on a 32Gb. For this, you just plug it in and leave it to update when the car is on; don't sit there and wait for it as there is no progress bar or procedure. It will take a while to update (its a lot of data) and will pick up where it leaves off as you use the car or park up. Personally, I'd suggest whichever USB port you don't use, get a stick for that and then plug it and leave it. Periodically look back at the software page to see if the version has changed and that's when you know you're done. This is the procedure as they are usually subscription based OTA (over the airwaves) updates which happen silently in the background.

Ok I think that's everything - report back if you have any problems...or if its sorted!

Oh - radio database don't bother with. Its the thumbnails pics for all the radio statiosn. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. Save your time on that one.

As per my earlier post, I've got to take my car back to the dealer as it needed Skoda technical department to find out what the problem is. Maybe you'll end up having to do the same if you go to the dealer?

Mine's going back to Sinclairs of Swansea who've been very helpful, but it's just a nuisance that they're so far away and I did buy the car from them. It was a Skoda approved car, but it was the second one on their list that I chose. The first one was 4 months newer with slightly less mileage, but their inspection revealed it'd been in an accident and had been poorly repaired and so they rejected it. This car hasn't been registered for the road since October 2024, but it's just coming back for sale now at another dealer.

Thanks! @travs

A couple of questions before I start:

  • I assume I can use either the USB in front of the gear selector or the one in the arm rest?

  • Do we think that this might solve the issues I am having with primary user?

Very grateful! I'll definitely report back!

No probs

  1. Yes either one of those are data-connected so will be fine

  2. Absolutely no idea. Its another variable but you'll have to wait and see I think...

I had a Network Error when I first downloaded maps - but in Chrome downloads there is an option to resume - I think the PC went to sleep and that interrupted it.

Nuts about the Skoda Connect though. I think I did it all at the same time when I first had the car and that was on v278 so never needed to set it up on later versions.

Right. So. Updated to 332. PXL_20250726_151828049.jpg

I was about to do a factory software reset, but this dialog popped up and I can't get past it, everything else is greyed out...

PXL_20250726_152115936.jpg

I've done a few restarts locks unlocks etc and now I'm just leaving it a half hour to see if that helps....

I think a factory reset is probably the right thing to do...(?) i just need to be able to get to the menu!

Thanks @travs for all your help. I have a big SD card arriving from Amazon for the maps.. so that'll come later.

One step forward, one step back!

I clearly meant USB stick, not SD card...

Sat in the car now, have managed to get out of the doom loop of constant sync of a profile that doesn't want to load. Did a factory reset, then added my user again, it seemed to sync okay, but becoming primary user still fails. I have been sitting on the attached screen for 20 mins...

I'm going to try another factory reset and then to create the user on the car itself... See if that has any more luck... Other than that I'm considering looking at using a different key as I think the users are tied to the keys?

PXL_20250726_182120887.jpg

  • Author

Okay. So it's clearly some sort of issue with the data connection... I tried connecting the car to my house Wifi, which I can view traffic from devices... Nothing at all coming from the car or going to the car, even during the sync bit (which clearly does do something... As some settings are applied, but I'm not sure how those are retrieved...)

I tried creating a new user and registering, but, same thing, swirling loading screen...

I live in a rural area, so I'm wondering if the esim is trying to do something, but can't because there is no signal... I barely get internet on my phone over 4g... And the esim is probably 3g...

Anyone else got any bright ideas?

From me it’s going to be the blind leading the blind from here on. Great that the software is updated and also the media codec and radio database have changed too so they must be baked into it.

Def try the other keys.

Have you done resets as in holding the power button until it reboots and the logo comes up?

  • Author

Thanks @travs, I haven't done the reset with holding the power button... I will give that a go - is that like a hard power cycle?

I'm at the stage now where I can't really legitimately spend any more time on this for a couple of days - so a guest user (correctly configured) and wired android auto is going to have to do for now!

Just curious - does anyone know what network the esim uses in the UK, or if it can be accessed to be changed? Presumably Skoda thought that 3g would be around forever...

Oh - and I got in touch with the main skoda dealer - they quoted me £180 +VAT to investigate the issue...

Thanks for all your help, I will try some more bits later in the week hopefully!
