Car Renewal Advice – Considering a Skoda Karoq (Lighting Question)

Featured Replies

Hi all,
Our car is up for renewal in February. We currently have a '69 plate Kia Sportage, which we've been really happy with. However, we're now looking at possibly switching to a Skoda – specifically the Karoq on a 23 plate. We've never had a Skoda before, but we really like the look of the Karoq.

One thing we're unsure about is the headlights. Our current Sportage has Xenon lights, which we love. When looking at the Karoq, we noticed it mentions “Matrix lights” – is that the same as Xenon, or something different? We’re a bit confused about the difference and whether Matrix lights are better, worse, or just newer tech.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated – especially from anyone who’s made a similar switch or knows the lighting systems well!

Thanks in advance!

Matrix lights are LED and the light beam adjusts and blanks out cars approaching and cars in front and in my opinion are great and 100 times better than old xenon lights.

I had 'Adaptive Xenon' headlights on my A4 .......

They were pretty good, but not a patch at lighting up the road ahead as the LED ones are on my current vehicle. Non matrix.

I had an issue with my A4 headlight on one side due to the 'adaptive' part affecting the high beam solenoid.

I managed to mend it myself but a new headlight would have been circa £1000.

I hate to guess what these matrix replacements would cost, or even the non matrix ones should an issue arise, though I'm guessing no moving parts inside the headlight housing.

I would agree with Tilt we had Xenon headlights on our Yeti but the LED headlights on our Karoq are much better for driving

Karoq Matrix headlights are brilliant. They have auto dip bean, so switch to main beam and the headlights automatically alter the beam pattern to prevent dazzling oncoming and traffic in front. They also light up the kerb side of the road and road signs very well.

Matrix lights are good, but on most if not all used Karoqs, you have to choose either Varioflex or matrix lights, because matrix lights by default are only on Sportline that has no Varioflex seating option, and not many people decided to splash out on £1.6k matrix light option on the SE L trim. Shame. Karoq with Varioflex seats is infinitely more useful to carry stuff in.
