Yeah you will, as most will quote for a new selector as that seems to be the official way to deal with it on a Fabia. I'll ping you a message on the garage who reckon to have done it cheap so if they are close to you, it might be worth giving them a call.

Next step will be that I will get the refurbished selector, 6C1 713 025 AA, fitted to the car. Then I will send the other one to be fixed to autotronix.fi .

The current 6C1 713 041 C selector is giving hard time...if the fault is active, you can't lock the doors with key fob.

I've booked the selector replacement on the 15th Dec. I also will get the intake manifold, inlet passages and the fuel injectors cleaned.

The selector was replaced on Monday and it seems to work.

Sending the faulty on to ecu.eu.

@jtmattila Sorry, I've lost the thread a bit on where you're up to with your selectors. Was the selector you have just had fitted, and appears to be working, the one that your auto electrician had a go at fixing back in September but you weren't that confident about because he hadn't actually found the switch, just some defective soldering?

Yes. No faults yet. The only problem with this fixed one is that moving the selector from P to D is a bit stiff.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. It will be interesting to see what ecu.eu do to fix the one you're sending off. At least that might give people an alternative repair option to mine, assuming they can arrange to dig their selector out the car and do without it for a little while.

This was all I got... nevertheless now I have two working selectors.

And I have to say it was quite fast. I send out the selector 7th Jan and it arrived today, 16th Jan.

I can see that ecu.eu charge 160 euro (excluding tax and shipping) for the repair so you're probably close to 200 euro for that. But just out of curiosity, how many hours labour was it to remove and then refit a selector?

For those who don't want to try my DIY method using a hacked about VW switch kit, it might give people a viable and relatively cost effective alternative to bending over and having a dealer insert a brand new selector 😢

Garage charged 190€ so it might be something around 2 hours. I might assembly the factory refurbished unit my self. It's not difficult but you need to get under the vehicle so you need a car lift (or something, don't know the right term)

Got the selector back today by mail.

Surprise, surprise ... ECU.eu added an external additional microswitch. So they did not do any internal repairs. I'll try to attach photos.

The repair order states:

Repair result: repaired, your unit was successfully repaired and tested

Fault cause: internal cause

Hints from our technician: after installation, please clear the trouble codes entries in the corresponding control units. An initialisation drive may be necessary

I also have this fault, Only leave in P position.

However from some of the posts above and from other research it seems that the fault will not cause any issues other than becoming an annoying intermittent fault message.

Is this correct? ( I had to turn off the stop /start and the stater motor is playing up, but I don’t think the faults are related).

If I do attempt a repair I can only find replacements that require some modification to the housing as an official repair kit for the Fabia mark 3 does not exist.

@Archie316 Your first question was answered earlier in the thread. Below for reference.

"It won't leave anyone stranded. It's more an irritation with it popping up and bleeping. It is if/when the switch goes permanently open circuit as opposed to intermittent open, that there may be a couple of issues - namely that it may be possible to inadvertently leave the car out of Park when you shouldn't be able to on an auto, and that is a safety matter (and a recall issue in US and Canada as they have specific regs relating to roll-away).

In the UK, the transmission lock on an auto isn't a specific MOT test item (because the gearbox isn't), nor is it a specific fail item - but if an MOT tester is sat with the error in front of them, it's likely it will at least be recorded as a safety related advisory. Whether they could find a code to fail it against, I couldn't say. A permanent switch fail will of course be visible to anyone looking to buy the car in the future too".

Your final point isn't quite correct. It is the VW switch repair kit that is secured to the top of the selector that needs to be modified to fit the Fabia (not the selector housing itself) as you will see from my photos on 27th August 2025 in this thread. The YouTube links on how I did ours were posted up on the 1st September 2025 in this thread so you can see if you feel confident enough to have a go yourself (you'll likely struggle to find a garage willing to do such a mod for you).
