from g13 to g12 evo

Featured Replies

hello first of all i want to apologize for my bad english (i use a translator), i bought a 2019 octavia 1.6 tdi 116 hp (ddya) 5 manual transmission with a silicate bag, i removed the bag and replaced the entire expansion tank but i still haven't changed the antifreeze. i have a few questions.

1 can i drive safely with a g13 without a silicate bag and what could possibly happen?

2 how to properly drain the system to eventually replace it with a g12 evo (if there is a clip it would be even better)?

3 how many liters of coolant do i need for a g12 evo?

Your engine will be fine with G13 coolant for the moment. Do you know if the coolant has ever been changed at the recommended interval?

The silicate bag was intended to increase the service life of the coolant between changes, so change intervals will probably be shorter without the silicate additive.

I believe that G13 and G12 evo are compatible with each other, but will check.

I can confirm that G13 and G12 evo are fully compatible for top-up or refill. There may be a colour change depending on different pigment of each coolant.

Capacity is 7.5 to 8 litres if coolant system is completely empty.

There is a possibility of introducing airlocks in cooling system if a special bleeding procedure is not followed - I'd advise a check on this.

I saw the full procedure with vcds, I think that by changing the belt and water pump, maybe by winter I will also replace the temnost, in reality I bought the car from Germany 3 weeks ago and the timing belt was changed 10k kilometers ago but it was parked for about a year and a half, which makes me want to replace it again. The belt was changed at an official dealer there, with a change of antifreeze, etc. I read somewhere that we can check the condition of the antifreeze by measuring its pH, I have strips but I don't know what the exact pH should be. If you know, I'll be happy to share. And one more question, on which channel ID of vcds can I see how my injectors work and what are the normal values and in what unit of measurement they are, it is about 1.6 116 hp tdi code ddya

I don't know about PH test, but I'd take a guess that it must be in neutral range (not acid or alkaline) - but actual anti-freeze component is important too - which would normally be tested for specific gravity to confirm correct level.

I have no experience of using VCDS, so cannot advise on measuring blocks.

A number of sites I've checked state coolant PH should be in the range of 8.5 to 9.5 and should be changed if lower than 8.0.

Some other sites say 9.0 to 10.5, the high end of which might seem a little too alkaline for me.

Extremely unlikely that the timing belt would have suffered deterioration in just 10k KM to warrant repeat replacement.

I have a few more questions related to vcds, I would be happy if someone familiar could answer, I saw that my ash level (oil ash mass) is higher, I am not sure how current it is and how I can reset it, also how high it can be filled as a number before I have to replace it with a new dpf.
