Sat nav location

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2025 diesel sel.

Had it since June.

The sat nav sometimes doesn't know where it is. It thinks I'm miles away from where I am.

It interferes with the ACC, applying brakes on the motorway....

Dealer says it needs an update which isn't available.

Anyone else had this?

Thanks.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

More likely to be a fault with the GPS antenna. Unsure where this is located on Mk4.

GPG antenna is in the shark fin on the roof in the rear.

ACC applies brakes according to the sat nav data, you can turn it off completely in the ACC settings so you will not get surprised while driving.

Thanks, so the same as the Mk3 then.

I've had the same issues, Dynamic Road Sign Assist Restricted, or message in yellow saying it is inoperative, and sat nav losing the place. I've got a photo exactly the same as yours, the sat nav showing me parked in the middle of the river a mile away from us instead of in our drive! I'm glad to say I've not had the ACC apply the brakes on a motorway.

I'm impressed that you managed to get a photo of the error message, I've had my wife poised a few times to catch it but it disappears after a few seconds.

The car is booked in for its first service in a couple of weeks and I've asked for these issues to be investigated.

Good luck!

I've been most unimpressed with both the dealer and customer service (who the dealer directed me to). The dealer wouldn't check the antennae as they said the symptom matched exactly the technical bulletin describing the need for a software update - but the update isn't available. It is apparently going to be released Q4.

Customer relations say they cant get in touch with the dealer and don't return my calls themselves.

I had this issue with my Octavia (a few years older than yours though and so not affected by modern "driver aids").

The cars position was showing half a mile to the left of its actual position.

I bought a GPS antenna for about a tenner and installed it top left of the widscreen and no probelms since.

As your car is a lot newer I guess you aren't so keen to start the DIY route over something that the dealer should fix though. 🤔

I had the same sort of problem with mine a few times in the first couple of days after I picked it up from the dealer (it was a six month old demonstrator). It would affect both the Skoda and Carplay systems (it seems that Carplay uses the car’s location signals rather than the phone’s when connected). Since then, however, it’s been behaving perfectly.

That’s interesting about CarPlay, I’ve had the same kind of issue and I would have thought it used the phone’s gps rather than the car, but it seems not. A couple of times when the car’s sat nav was playing up I switched to Google maps only to find it wasn’t working either.
