Why would you want to put an inferior engine into it.

OP just appears to be looking for advice and may not know the nuances between different types of engine.

OP - PD130 is old technology (think 20 years ago). While getting hold of one may be cheap to buy, if it even fits you’re going to find less performance, higher emissions, issues with MOT and whole other bunch of headaches.

Best bet is to look at a direct replacement or potentially other versions of the same engine which may give you improved performance.

There will be plenty of info around the forum; the engine won’t be limited to just the Superb, so maybe see what other options there are with the same variant of engine and go from there?

The best advice I can give you on engine swaps, is that if you have to ask for advice, don't do it.

But if you really MUST do it, expect the project cost to spiral, expect to have to put-up with some unfortunate trade-offs (which could be benign or downright infuriating), brace yourself for some insurance issues, and expect to have the car for life because it'll be tricky to sell.

Edit: I forgot, expect it to take about 5 to 10 times longer than you expected it to take.

I agree. If you have to ask, you can’t do it.

That being said, the engine comparison is oranges and apples. They’re completely different engines - while a PDXXX (Pumpe Duse) unit is bombproof, the later Common Rail units aren’t exactly known for their unreliability.

Equally, the 1.9TDI does have some issues (well, later ones did AFAIK) but the 1.6TDI has a DPF and other fun things that go wrong.

Good point - DPF would kill the option alone I think...

If your car has also DSG, there are also interconnectivity problems with the gearbox as well, but I think your is manual, right?

You best chance, if you really want to embark in thar journey (heed the advice written above!) is to replace your unit with an equivalent "family" powerplant.

This way, you minimize issues arising from a different engine management system, etc.

In your case, I would look for a 2.0tdi of the same lineage, would certainly not "downgrade" to an older PD unit - nothing about about them, just too older a powerplant for your vehicle.
