Front shocks, top mounts & bearings

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My 2017 Octavia 1.5 TSI needs front shocks, top mounts and wheel bearings both sides. My usual garage has quoted £770 incl. VAT.

Does that sound reasonable to anyone who’s had similar work done? I also need two new front tyres so just checking I’ve got the order and price about right.

Cheers!

which brand of shocks?

i payed similar parts "Sachs" for Karoq, very similar, also i get strut stabilizers, and new driveshaft bolts, all for about 300€ which is about 270 british pounds, from your offer they take 500!! pounds for work. is it insane? how is it that expensive. its easy job. maybe 2 hours. OMDG.

are labour prices so high in UK?

i mean i did it myself, most tools i had, only buy set of 3 pieces 400mm Coil Spring Compressor.

NEVER BUY ORIGINAL SHOCKS!

Labour charges at main dealers can be around £120 an hour some even higher

Car parts are pricey and labour isn't free either?
I've done shocks myself but had a look myself too at one side needing replacement and its seems a hiding to nothing....Fabia was much easier and confidence inspiring.

Bolts sieze coming off ARB drop links, probably want cutting off ( they are cheap enough but only delivered, collection looking at £25 each ). Stupid little spline to try to free off the nuts as they otherwise spin.

The lower pinch bolt splined is pretty solid rusted in even though the nut loosened off easy enough, losing will to live with it personally and thinking paying £100+ for my local man to faff about with it isn't a bad idea, especially with the weather
If heat/ smacking and further power tooling out is needed, seems worthwhile.

Saved quite a bit on parts myself getting those new but....monroe shock to match the other side was done and a sachs standard sports spring. even so still going over £100-120 a side...
bolt kit was a further £15 I think....they have to do the wheel bearings too mind. If that includes tyres too its not bad at all ?
