Derek Slack Courtesy Car

Featured Replies

My Octy is in for it's first service on Friday at Derek Slacks, just wondering if anyone has had theirs serviced there recently and knows what i'm likely to get as a courtesy car, Octy vRS, Superb Elegance or 1.2 Fabia? :)

Completely off topic but I saw an Enzo the other day on the M1 near Wakefield, bright yellow and ambling along, I told my GF I had seen a half million pound car and she wasn't impressed at all! Wasn't anyone from here was it? :D

Hey...................Mines Bright Yellow....But it's a furbie

I doubt anyone is going to give you a vRS or a Elegance Superb as a loan car.

It'll probably be either a Octavia 1.6FSi Ambiente hatch or a 1.9TDi Ambiente Estate. I would have thought... But let me know if I am right.

Even on my most inattentive days I don'y think I could mix them up! I was trying to find some sort of similarity but basically it's just the colour they have in common. :D

They have a few Fabia's (don't know which models though).

I don't usually bother with the courtesy cars, as you always need to book them 3 weeks in advance!

We did! Phoned up at the beginning of July and this friday was the earliest they could fit us in with a courtesy car.

I might give them a ring today and ssee if I can arrange a car on the premise I might be buying one. Should it be a 2.0 TDi with DSG as i'm thinking of one for my next company car (which is half true anyway) or Fabia vRS as i'm thinking of trading in my GF Clio 1.5????

I got an Octy vRS as a courtesy car for my 10k service :D

I dont rate derek slack at all, so you probably wouldn't get one if you asked for it!!

Complete bunch of muppets from my experience, and they really blew it when i rang up for a price of a standard BOV..

which went something like...

me: Hello, could you give me the price for a standard octavia vrs dump valve, you may call it a blow off valve...

DS: One minute sir...

minute passes..

DS: are you sure sir?

me: Yes..

DS: I dont think skoda's have any such valve..

me: I can assure you that they do, it releases unwanted boost from the turbo..

DS: Skoda's dont have dump valves or turbos sir..

me: Yes they do.. because i drive one!

DS: What engine is in your vrs sir..

me: the same engine thats in all of your octavia vrs's

DS: ok sir which one is that then..

me: the 1.8 20v turbo...

DS: are you sure sir.. do you have an engine code?

me: just forget it, ill call someone else..

DS: goodbye sir

Quite scary when i was talking to the service manager...

Hmm yeah that conversation would mean 'definitely not getting my business'

Luckily both dealerships near me do tend to know the standard stuff that goes into their cars, must admit not knowing skodas have turbos is just blatently stupid, considering most of the diesel versions have a turbo, and of course there are the petrol ones too. Scary :)

it amazed me that they didn't even know which engine was in the vrs.. i have found DS to also be the most expensive out of all the dealerships i have dealt with, phillip wilks in darlington is much better imo!

me: Hello, could you give me the price for a standard octavia vrs dump valve, you may call it a blow off valve...
It is neither of those names. The correct name for the OEM part is cut-off valve - PN: 06A 145 710N. And while we all know what a MAF is, the correct name for that is air volume meter; and the coil pack as fitted to the 1.8T engine is actually an ignition coil with spark plug connector. All very confusing.

regardless.. you would hope that someone who had the title service manager would still know what i was on about, i even described to him exactly what it did and he was still clueless

imho....i will not go to D.S for a car,as i rang to arrange a test drive several months ago.............guess what iam still waiting for the sales man to ring me back.

rang the place in darlo {phil wilks} they did not have a car in but brought one down from there other dealership in the durham area .........FULL MARKS

SO IF SLACKS READ THIS YOU HAVE MISSED OUT ON A SALE OF A OCTY VRS

i got a black fabia 1.2 sport 2 weeks ago when i took me octy in...have previously had a diesel octavia too. They do hav a red Fabia Vrs that i am gonna try and get next time!

Have to agree with APINNER tho - they are a bunch of muppets. I find them most unhelpful. Have used them this past year only because i had a years warrenty with my car...defo gonna try the Darlington dealership in future.

Well, I suppose it must be your voices/faces - I've had nothing but excellent service from Derek Slack. So much so, I've just picked up my new Octy vRS from them.

My girlfriend even went to them to get brake discs and pads changed because Jennings cocked her Arosa up at the last service. They did an excellent job, fixing the problem Jennings introduced and even charged less than Jennings were asking us to pay for fixing the problem they created.

I dont rate derek slack at all' date=' so you probably wouldn't get one if you asked for it!!

Hmmmmmm, phoned them today and spoke to someone in service enquiring about price of tyres as mine are virtually down to the wear bars. Told him the car was in tomorrow (friday) for it's first service and he was a bit abrupt and told me it was up to them to decide if it needed new tyres or not!

Think i'll post how the full day goes tomorrow night as we have differing views on Derek Slacks service.

I wouldn't bother getting tyres from a dealer. They will check the tread depths for you & record it on the print out but Dealer prices are a little higher than independant garages. Try somewhere like C&S Tyres.

I have to say that I've had no problems at all with Derek Slacks.

C&S Tyres is the best place to go in Middlesbrough.

 Have always used C&S for tyres. Good bunch of lads.

DaveI, Just popped into Derek Slacks about 30 mins ago. Think I saw your car in there.

Was that the one they were doing handbrake turns in round the car park?

N4 NTE on the reg? Just picked it up, when I arrived at 4.50pm it was still in one of the bays.

I have had both good.....and..... bad service from Slacks.

The first service done @ 8K on my Octy vRS was spot on......exactly what I expected from the garage my family have bought four cars from, (Octy vRS, two furby vRS's and a 1.9 Furby SD).

The second service done @ 11k was a disgrace

I'm a HGV maintenance supervisor for a global gases company, and I had checked my car over an inspection pit prior to its second service......... It had zero defects.

The car came back from service with nine defects.....it even had some parts missing :thumbdwn:

The defects were rectified the next day, to my satisfaction, by Slacks, who were of course very appologetic.

Because of the nature of some of the defects, I have for the moment lost a fair bit of confidence in some of Slacks service dept staff.

My brother in law also had some problems with Slacks service dept, and now takes his Furby to Chapmans of Pickering, and he rates them.

A mate who runs his own garage said that Slacks have lost a couple of good mechanics.....which might explain them throwing a bit of a wobbler......time will tell.
