Derek Slack Courtesy Car

Featured Replies

I have had no problem with Derek Slack either, got a good discount with my Octy vRS last year, and the salesman was even helpful the other week when I got a HUGE piece if flat bar thro my tyre when I called there for some touch up paint I had ordered (picked the bar up going around the roundabout nearby).

mine went in for its 40k service a few weeks ago and since the MOT was due i asked them to do that at the same time. I had a call an hour after leaving the car and was told "the car needs new discs and pads on the front and pads on the rear"... (that old chestnut)... i knew there was nothing wrong with them so i said will it not go through its MOT? he said he will ask mechanic and if not will get back to me....lo and behold they never rang me back. There really is nothing wrong with the pads or discs...id have had a £500+ bill if id have let them do it. I would expect it from a backstreet garage out to make a few quid but not my local main dealer. They even charged me for screenwash when i'd filled it the day before lol! its the little things......

Completely off topic but I saw an Enzo the other day on the M1 near Wakefield, bright yellow and ambling along, I told my GF I had seen a half million pound car and she wasn't impressed at all! Wasn't anyone from here was it? :D

The Enzo is a million pound car, and it is by invite only.

Just an overpriced Fiat anyway

Nope, the MSRP was $643,330 on first release which at current interest rates works out as

I had both my Octavias serviced at Slacks and never had any problems.

Clocked one in car park of Gleneagles on 15 Jul (also bright yellow - same one, Italian plates?). Always like popping in there when we're out that way - wife lets me off to stroll around the car park where there are always some class acts to drool over. Impact of Enzo however was lost on her too! :o

Mixed to be honest, but overall have to say they have treated me well.

Went to have a look at the used cars and found the staff to be very helpful and far from pushy! Brilliant.

Even when discussing figures they were not pushy at all and were keen to help me out with taxing the car and putting a private reg on as my mother would normally sort it but she was in hospital. As I felt the offer on my VW Polo was a bit low :thumbdwn: I asked if they could fill up the gap with remote central locking, again they said yes!

After I put my deposit down, they said the car would be ready by monday morning of next week (so they could do the 40,000 service, and "check" for a noise I pointed out to them), and after phoning them on the morning it was due to be collected they said it would be evening instead.:thumbdwn: I was quite unimpressed by the poor time keeping and so they chucked in fitted mats for free!

A week after collecting the car, I decided to wash it, and discovered the rear doors were leaking (same old problem):thumbdwn: But after phoning up they booked it in that day and sorted it for me free of charge.

Two weeks later, the front passenger footwell filled with water:thumbdwn: , and again they had the car sorted by the next day free of charge:thumbup: (however I did have to argue that they should sort it for free as I have only had the car 3 weeks:thumbdwn: !).

As I mentioned earlier, I reported a noise on the test drive and was assured this would get looked at, so after picking the car up and the noise still being present I assumed that the noise was ok. WRONG. Obviously they hadnt checked:thumbdwn: , as the noise progressivly got worse, so I was forced to take it back into them. The engineer quickly located the fault as the cambelt and tensioners and advised I left it with him to sort out, together with the vibrating 4th gear.

He sorted the cam belt and tensioner and Derek Slack footed the bill for parts and labour:thumbup: , but the gearbox had to be looked at in more detail - so I had to take it back the next week.

After taking it back in, the engineer located the fault as a gearbox problem and said that it would be cheaper and easier to change the whole gearbox rather than spend time finding the faulty part. They told me that they could fix the part, but with no promise of it working :thumbdwn: - or change the gearbox for free:thumbup: - or change the gearbox and I pay

Ive had good and bad dealings with them but i suppose its the same with all garages, i'm going to have a go at darlo though to see if they are any better than slacky's, does anyone use a decent independant back street garage in the boro area that do a good job for a reasonable price.@pembo is that cheap for the aircon, mine needs doing shortly

Very very very cheap. My brother went to Florries near the UGC (give them a ring to double check) and he was quoting about

As far as I understand it, most air con companies who do a "regas" do an antibacterial clean as part of that so it sounds like Slacks' quote was a few quid cheaper. I paid 60 quid for a regas (inlcuding anti-bac clean) by a mobile air con specialist who came to my house during his lunch hour and did it on my drive

PEMBO / RIGBY - i have used philip wilks at darlo two weeks ago when my engine light came on...they were great - took a look at the car two days after i called them..i left it with them for an hour (they even offered to drive me into town while i waited). Its a fairly small dealership so maybe thats why they could look at it quicker. (i rang slacks first and they said id have to leave the car the whole day and they'd look at it "when they could"...and if any work needed doing they are fully booked for next 3 weeks...which is no good to me at all as i need my car for work). anyway, i went through to wilks' monday for the diagnostic....they got my part in for wednesday and i went through thursday morning .. job done!

haven't been yet but will post what sort of service i get when i do go, its sounds as though they are better than slacky's just hope there prices are.

p.s slackys qouted 50 for the regas and 17 bacteria treatment plus the dreaded no doubt everything is there.
