Should we buy an Elroq?

Featured Replies

As the title really. We don't need convincining about running a BEV, we have one albeit a tinny french thing. Current thing has a 230 range WLTP, so an Elroq 85 is a significant range increase. For the most part range isn't really an issue but I'd like to venture further afield without charging. However thats not the real question. We've looked at Elroq in the showroom a couple of times and it seems so big. We want something bigger than our current main car. Something as big as our Fabia estate would be ideal. We know the Epiq is coming but by length alone thats the same size as our current french dustbin and doesn't have the bootspace of Furby. We did run a Kodi but don't need something to tow any more. Any comments about the Elroq, rather than about my incoherent ramblings? Target model an edition 85.

Oh, and an important question given this weeks stress with the french dustbin. Can you get a spare wheel for the Elroq?

You can always buy a spare wheel or tyre, the question is where will you store it ? Leave it in the boot but that will eat into your bootspace.

For some strange reason 15 years back the EU and UK decided it was acceptable to just have a can of sealant ... As soon as that regulation was passed they all saw the opportunity to save a little bit of money .

Whether not the Elroq is suitable for you, the only way you can answer is by test driving as it's personal to wash person.

For us, our Elroq VRS is perfect size. We had a Kodiaq followed by a Tesla Model y ( too big with awful turning circle), we live in a city so wanted something a bit more usable. Renault 5 was too small , enyaq was the roughly the same size as the Model Y.

Elroq was perfect , especially as we have growing kids . We also have a superb estate we use for camping etc

Thanks for the reply. Our french dustbin doesn't have even a space to store a spare wheel. I suppose we could get something from a similar car but it would sit loose in the boot. Thats not safe.

The move to not having a spare was never truly about money. The small reduction in weight that you are dragging around actually saves fuel. Until the dustbin, I chose to get a spare. The question is, is there a proper safe storage in the Elroq that of course reduces boot space, but is properly supported as in fixed in place. The Kodi certainly had that.

I'd be interested to hear how it compares to the Superb estate. We had one and adored it.

And yes, we won't be deciding anything without a decent test drive.

Went to have a look and book a test drive. No space to safely fit a spare wheel. However dealer told me that they are fitted with self sealing tyres. Can anyone confirm theirs is?

I bought a “space saver” for my Elroq.

It hasn’t caused me any issues carrying it around as in the photo. If I ever need to really load up it would just have to be left behind but that scenario hasn’t happened yet.

Nothing on mine to suggest they are self sealing. Continental Eco Contact 7, can’t see any Contiseal markings.

However the Continental website does say Eco Contact 7 are self sealing.

Either way, I don’t like not having a spare in the boot !

We have an Edition 85' but I'm not aware of it having self sealing tyres. That always seemed a VW thing rather than Skoda. Our car has 255 wide tyres which, presumably is because of the weight of the car. Personally, I wouldn't want to run it on a space saver steel wheel. In any case, I think you'd be pushing your luck to jack the car up with anything less than a 3 tonne trolly jack and I guess you wouldn't keep one of those in the boot.

From experience, I don’t want to rely on any breakdown service if I have a puncture. There’s numerous scenarios for me and/or reasonably remote places where changing the wheel myself would get me to where I’m going with minimal delay. I’ve got a 2 ton scissor jack, suitable bar and wheel chocks and will only lift the relevant corner not the entire car with it.

Ideally if I did have a puncture I’d get Škoda assistance, or whoever I use once that expires, to come out and fit my space saver.

This is preferable to me than their options which are generally :

1.taking you and the flat wheel to a nearby tyre place, getting new possibly very expensive tyre and returning to fit it.

  1. Full recovery to tyre place (EV can’t be towed).

  2. Full recovery somewhere else, and then sort tyre.

  3. Sending mobile tyre fitter to fit their expensive tyre ( This might be first option for some recovery services).

  4. Fit their temporary wheel for you to drive to tyre place.

Not to mention, response times for recovery can be ridiculously long and EV tyres are often stupid, rare sizes that might not be on the shelf and need ordering.

I would want a spare - presently we have a '21 reg kamiq and on two occasions have torn the sidewall on the rear nearside - the lowish profile tyres are not a stock item and have a two day lead time. I don't want to be in a position of needing recovery for a puncture, followed by days off the road if I get a puncture.

Is there something under the floor covering that could be omitted, then put some carved kingspan in to create spare wheel storage?

One way to check how long getting a replacement might take, is to look at the brochure, find out the tyre size (usually in the technical detail towards end of brochure). Then put the size into the webpages of some of your local tyre shops.

Skoda UK often picking weird tyre sizes as standard fit, means waiting 2-4 days is not uncommon as hardly anyone keeps the unusual sizes in stock.

To follow up on this.

Test drove one today. Liked it so have ordered one. Yay. Edition 85, with Lodge interior, winter pack and transport pack. Currently at the docks awaiting shipping. Would that be Emden? Expected 3-4 weeks.

Checked the boot of the one in the showroom Yep sealant and a pump. We had been told nonsense about self sealing tyres.

Only downside they wouldn't take our car as pex and deposit, so have to sell it ourselves. Anyone else had that? Yeah its a French thing, but only 3 years old and really low miles.

Download the myShipTracking app and you will be able to track the ships leaving emden, depending on what part of the UK your in your car will go to the following ports, South - Sheerness, Mid - Grimsby, North - Tyne. The current ships being used more often than not are Neptune Phos, Elbe Highway, Malacca Highway, Parana and Thames Highway.

If you search for your port of entry or emden, it will tell you list of expected arrivals into that port, should give you some more insight as to when it will arrive.

When I have had orders shipped previously, ask the dealer to check the system, once it goes to status 36 I believe which is released to shipping, you can pretty much be sure that your car will be on the next boat to your port.

I believe status 35 is vehicle at port of exit, that usually means it’s sat in a pound waiting for a ship, once it hits 36 it’s been given the green light to be loaded to a boat.

Just a warning tho, it does get addictive 😂

Thanks for all the replies. I'm struggling to get the paperwork we were shown electronically, via email as we are promised even after me phoning to follow up. Irritating. Will try a couple more calls, and then arrive at the dealer asking for them to be printed! Furby will be getting some use in the next few weeks while we divest ourselves of the French dustbin.

I use these 2 websites to follow marine traffic. Just ask your dealership for the name of the vessel and you can search and follow it's journey.

If you live in the South then most vehicles will be delivered to Sheerness. In the North it's Grimsby. Unfortunately once it's in the country you are in the hands of the logistics company and there isn't any tracking available for that. Dealerships usually get notification of delivery a couple of days before it arrives.

Something to bear in mind is that car transporters will not leave unless they are full and only with deliveries to multiple dealerships in that particular area, it's not logistically viable to have a transporter travelling all over the country dropping 1 car off at a time.

Hope it helps

Got it. Love it. But revisiting the tyre question. No sign of a pump or sealant in the boot on mine. Locking nut, nut trim puller are present. Looked under the boot carpet (we have transport pack) and didn't find anything. The manual does mention that some versions are fitted with SEAL tyres, so don't have a pump and sealant. Nothing I can see on the tyres but will look up the specific ones when I can see the tyre name better.

on ours the pump and sealant are in moulding of the false floor, under the carpet just behind the rear seats. Quite why it's that far back, I have no idea.

Oh, right. I'll have another look.

And as predicted, there was my sealant kit and pump, along with the towing eye. What an odd place to put it. Still loving the car!
