Correct Head Bolt Torque For 2014 Octavia 2.0 TDI CUPA

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I recently replaced the headgasket on a 2014 octavia vrs, using the following manual for torque settings.
https://octaviaclub.cz/dilenska_prirucka_skoda_octavia_3_2013_2014_tdi_eng_aj.pdf

(Page 93 of manual, 101/432)

However, after I finished the job, I was a bit horrified when i found a newer edition of a workshop manual for an ea288 engine that quoted different torque specs for the head bolts.
https://www.scribd.com/document/653708700/4-Cylinder-TDI-Engine-2-0-Ltr-4-Valve-Common-Rail-EA-288-Gen-I#page=99

(Page 92 of manual, 100/364)

The torque setting i used were: 30NM - 65NM - 90° - 90°
The torque settings in the newer edition I found are: 30NM - 70NM - 90° - 90° - 90°

Given the absence of a third 90° turn in the procedure i followed, i am obviously a bit concerned. Would anyone else who has replaced a head gasket on these ea288 engines be able to comment on which head bolt torque settings you used or if there is a reason for the two different specs.

Thanks in advance.

Wrong link.

Its worth checking the MY year on the first set and second set of torque values. The second doc with the higher torque settings which was published in 2016 - makes reference to the correct engine, but it is in relation to an Audi as opposed to a Skoda. I would stick with the first set of values as that does seem to cover your MY year.

You could always go on erWin Skoda, and download the relevant, current document for your engine. It'll cost you a few Euros (7 + tax last time I bought an hour's access), but would offer some certainty. You could also download a bunch of other info whilst you're there, if you wanted.

Don't dilly-dally though; they are closing to private individual customers in a week's time.

Communication came through to that effect a few weeks ago. Not sure if they've already stopped allowing non-company users to register though, try it and see?

Thank you both for your replies.

I wasn't aware of erwin prior to now, but that is exactly what I am looking for. I purchased an hour of access, and downloaded as much information as i could along with the head bolt torques. Unfortunately it seems that the spec was revised to correspond to the higher torque settings i came across after completing the job.
