Bouncy and Unsettling ride

Although top mounts are a lottery themselves. I got Arteon ones when doing my B16s and have the dreaded steering creak on the nearside front. Given the difference between OE an OEM, maybe I didn’t get proper ones…

Ok will just order the standard ones from Skoda and not the bilstein ones, which are not in stock anyway.

Will also new bolts etc for the front top mounts and lower arms front and rear

Rotate the spring as it may not be seated properly - I have had OEM Arteon Top mounts fitted aswell to in the quest to removing the creaking, but after fitting them i was still getting it, so took it back and got them to rotate the spring and it worked.

Have it on the list to do but last time it was looked at, I was told the end of the spring butts up against a stopper on the perch - I presumed it has to sit there but maybe not. Either way having looked up, I reckon its something I can do at home with the car jacked up and the strut at full droop...perhaps?

The B6's have arrived today, waiting for the new mounts to come in and the car is booked in for the end of Feb to be done, can't wait now!

I had an Arteon from new in 2021…it’s front suspension creaked not long into ownership, and sounded awful when it was running in EV mode, you could hear every creak and squeak!

With regards to top mounts, we replaced the shocks on my wife’s Smart last summer; 7 years old with less than 20k on the clock. One of the top mounts fell apart and dropped ball bearings everywhere when we removed the shock, and both front shocks could be pushed down by hand!

That’s insane. There have been reports of other Arteon top mounts being preferred over Superb ones, which makes you realise they must be made of sandwich ham!

Mine was a Covid car, so guess whatever they had in the VAG parts bin was used to build the thing!

Alas, not knowing in detail how the suspension setup is made, it is difficult to tell.

Everything depends on what makes the suspension travel "end" in extension - wether is the coil, or the shock.

On most of the cars I have worked, the shock is longer than the coil, which means even at full 'drop' you will not be able to release the pressure of the coil. Must detach first the shock, and then you can have the suspension arm "free" which means the top can be released without launching of parts everywhere, which can be very dangerous.

On my older Audi C4s the shock is incorporated in the strut, and accessible from the top ... you can even renew shock or upper bushes with the wheels in situ!

I think an easy check is to, lacking anyone that has done it who can fill in, to lift one corner and with a breaker bar to "push" further down the suspension ...you kinda get a feeling.

Me I would in any case release the shock if possible, I always get a bad feeling when they are at the maximum extension ...

Anyone replaced the springs at the same time as doing the shocks?

Yep, front shocks, springs and top mounts transformed the front.

Rears just needed replacement shocks, which brought the whole car together.

Thanks, have got all new Bilstein B6, tops mounts, bump stops, shocks and nuts/bolts

Speaking with @Binx1310 when he collected the gaiter off me the ride is worse in mine, with 75k on the clock so hoping this really transforms the car

This Thursday is when it’s all getting done, can’t wait

Springs are in at the garage doing the work

Had a Kamiq today as car was in the garage, even that had better suspension than my Superb

Let’s hope The suspension does the trick. I was conscious going over the speed bumps driving away from yours and mine definitely doesn’t bounce!

Its being done today, had to drop off late yesterday so they have the car all day today to get it done, hoping nothing else is flagged whilst doing so.

I can't wait, expect loads more driving if it does improve it, but the front bobby a few times are a speed bump is getting annoying.

Fingers crossed it solves it!

Car collected late afternoon and the drive home was Superb (see what I did there).

Car feels totally transformed, with more planted stable ride and no bouncing after going over a speed bump with a more sporty ride every feels more taught but then everything should do.

Garage doing the work said the B6’s piston are like double the size of the stock ones.

Car seems to be a little higher but will take time to bed in
