Window wipers

Featured Replies

Hey

I know there are lots of topics on this. But I wanted the lasted information.

I have a 2021 Octavia Vrs IV which I love.

I'm thinking it's time to change the wiper blade on the front and back.

Any body have any good suggestions? I'm happy to pay if they are know to be good wiper. But a standard set would also be fine

Many thank

I have often used Bosch in the past and round them very good but this time I decided to try 20Twenty ones from Autobulbsdirect and they've been excellent over the last few months

I always use Bosch Aerotwin's can't complain with them, shame they only last around a year, but I live out in the country so I get stuck behind anything especially in wet roads where it's not actually raining

Requesting this posting be moved to MK4 Octavia area.

However, I personally recommend a fresh set of VAG windscreen wipers. They will last exactly one year. Found that third party parts are not as good.

Bosch Aero Twin. I’ve been using these for years on my Passat before the Superb, I normally get about 18 months from them (or about 15/16K miles) 👍

Another vote for Bosch AeroTwin. Been using them for on several cars; they last well. Lastest set been on for about 25k miles and still going strong.

And another vote for Bosch Aerotwin, used on them on my Skodas and Audis for many years and always been happy with performance and lifetime.

@SteveTheElder

Steve, you must do mostly decent roads.

I travel down single track roads almost every day, mud and dirty water in the cold wet weather, dust, twigs and tree sap in winter. My wipers work hard 🤦‍♂️

Can any body confirm the 24inch and 19inch sizes. I'm getting mixed reports online.

By comparison yes; and that 25k miles was in about 18 months.

I’m using the Bosch AU26U (650mm) and AU19U (475mm). At the time of purchase the online selection tool came up with a shorter blade for the offside which didn’t sweep as high up the screen - a problem for me as I am tall and sit high in the car.

Measure your existing ones...???

+1 for Bosch Aerotwin's. I'm also a bit out in the sticks and travel down a lot of country roads most days.
The only issue I've noticed is sometimes there's wiper drag when clearing the rear screen when it's cold. Maybe that's because there's not enough pressure from the wiper arm on the rear?

I use these on my 2021 octavia vrs and had no issues

What is the expected lifetime of wipers? I only ask because I got m first service the other day (prepaid) and they said oh do you want us to change the wipers. I thought 12 months was a short time and the dealer said they recommend changing every 6 months!

Anyway I said no as the rear wiper has been squeaky from new. I went with Wipertech which is an Australian supplier and they are so much better than OEM.

Lifespan all depends on location, I would assume with Australia being a more dusty place compared to the typically wet Britain or Ireland wipers would burn out quicker, but 12 months would be a typical lifespan for most places

Good to know, I’ve never changed them that frequently in my life!

Me neither, I give them a wipe periodically with a rag soaked in brake cleaner but if they're not split then they're still good to go !

Our last Octavia I replaced them with genuine parts when we bought it 2nd hand, 150k miles later I sold it with the same blades. There was nothing wrong with the originals but as the car was new to us I felt the urge to treat it !

I'd recon sunlight and heat will do damage as opposed to the dull wet weather they are meant to help us see through !?

It depends on the roads you’re driving on. Lots of country roads put small pieces of debris onto the windscreen. I travel about 3k of my 10k annual mileage on narrow country roads. It makes a big difference in wiper longevity 😥

Have to ask, if the Bosch and VAG ones only last a year, why not buy non-branded EBay ones which last just as long?

Lifetime depends on road and weather conditions, I drive mainly on motorways, A & B roads and for me the Bosch blades last at least 4 years.

I agree, it does depend on many factors, not least miles covered: I was just referring to earlier comments.

I seem to recall, from another thread on here, or another forum I frequent, the suggestion was that they could well be made in the same factory anyway…

🤔

At least the Bosch & VAG ones come with a warranty but I doubt that can be said of the eBay ones?

I have tried the DIY version in the past, for both the front and rear screens. For my Daughter BMW 1 series doing about 4K miles a year they lasted about 18 months - decent value. My Grandsons Golf at about 25k a year they lasted less than 12 months. I’m my Passat the rear screen blade lasted only a few months, possible due to the amount of tree debris that affects all my wipers. On the front. They lasted all Summer, but split after a couple of frosts - possible user error in not cleaning the ice away properly.

However, I have 1 strip left and it won’t be fitted to the Superb…..
