Help - EPC LIGHT

Featured Replies

Looking for some advice. Was driving my 2023 Kamiq earlier when it started to lose power, EPC warning came on and slowed down car, managed to pull over. Car then wouldn’t start showing error EPC and 12v issue, and start stop error. Attempted a jump start which started engine but after about 20 seconds and some revving the engine gave out again. Got recovery to come, took around 1 hour and when they arrived it started no issue (typical!). A diagnostic was run showing fuel rail pressure error, but mechanic had a good look and reset everything with no errors after. Got the car home, only thing coming up is 12v low, I have ran it for a good while now to hopefully charge it up, but got it booked for a battery check tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar or has any advice? I still have my Skoda manufacturer warranty for 7 months.

Normally this light is associated with issues with the throttle body.

Did the check engine light and the stability control light also come on?

Did you notice the engine temperature, was it high?

Were you low on fuel?

For sure get the car booked in to a garage for a thorough check.

Sounds like the same problem I had with my SEAT with stop/start. Loss of power (limp mode) dash lights on, notably traction control, EPC, engine management check light etc. Codes read at home brought a throttle position sensor at fault, garage said to they found the same fault. Long story shortened, it was a failing battery, new one fitted sorted it.

Thanks for the advice. Had the battery checked with a tester at a garage and no issues. However driving today the car appears to be inappropriately over revving while driving, and takes a wee sec to recognise I’ve changed up to 5th or 6th gear ( keeps showing 3 or 4). Going to get it checked by my nearest Škoda garage and hope warranty covers the issue!

Was looking for a friend with similar problems and came accross a few folks on other forums with same EPC and 12v low message. There skoda garage scanned it and found a few minor faults unrelated to warning but also noticed that there was a software update outstanding on their car. They were pointed in the direction of Skoda assist who did an update and so far so good.

Update - Car has now brokendown and won't drive, appears that the clutch has knackered. Car is at 18,900 miles. Unsure if the prior issue yesterday is linked or not.

Skoda assist sent out AA who was able to load car up for towing, but only able to take car to a skoda garage once said garage accepts to take it in. Nearest skoda appropved garage is around 50 miles away, Arnold Clark. After spending an eternity on hold and being passed around, was told they would be able to next look at it at end of FEB! And till then they wouldnt be able to take the car to hold, meaning to hire car can be organised via skoda. Spoke to another Skoda dealer ages away from me who advised Arnold Clark cannot refuse car and should take it in and identify issue in 48 hours. Now need to wait till tomorrow to phone back and try argue my case to get it seen quickly!

^^^sounds a very weird set of happenings to that car, can't believe it's got a clutch problem @18k miles??

Probably not the clutch but the Low miles has not meant plenty others having failures. @ronanh_ Where are you in Scotland and which Arnold Clark dealership is it? Probably best avoided. The clue being the Sign on the building. ARNOLD CLARK.

I’m down in the borders so nearest Škoda dealer is Arnold Clark Seafield Road Edinburgh. They were little to no use on the phone but I’m going to call them again tomorrow and hope there’s someone around who has a bit more of a clue. If not I will probably have to go Carlisle way. Obviously with a clutch issue I’m worried it won’t be covered under warranty as it may be deemed wear and tear even at 18k miles. Škoda assist have said they would provide a hire car but I don’t want to end up footing a large cost for this alongside garage repairs if not covered by my warranty.

West End Skoda Edinburgh are no better sadly.

I think you are best returning to the supplying dealer if this an option. (Assuming you bought from a Skoda dealer.)

Don't touch Arnold Clark with a bargepole IMHO.

The symptoms of over-revving you describe do sound like a clutch issue.

Unfortunately I didn’t buy from a Škoda dealer, but I’m going to get it to a Škoda dealer for repairs.

Is it under any waranty if you didnt buy it from skoda dealer?

Do you have Skoda Warranty or do you have 3rd party Warranty?

It’s Škoda new car warranty with 7 months left. Eventually after some back and forth with dealerships and Škoda customer support, Škoda have given a push from their side to force the dealer to take my car from recovery. Now to wait and see what the issue turns out to be and see if warranty will cover or not!

Good news, would try to swerve around Arnold Clark if you can though, too many bad reviews.

Would a clutch issue be expected at 19k miles? I understand that warrenty does state wear and tear items are not covered (understandably), but surely a clutch should not be expected to fail at 19k miles? Would Counsumer Rights act or Sales of Good Act be of any use, which states items and parts should be fit for purpose and should last as long as a reasonable person would expect them to last.

If its the clutch depending on how its failed the chances are they will say they wont cover it. At 19k if its failed you could argue its a manufacture deffect but unless the clutch manufacturer or skoda have had previous problems I doubt you will have any luck. Best case scenario I reckon would be that they offer to pay for parts and you pay the labour. Try going down the line of its only done 19k so shouldnt have failed first.

One very early demised clutch thread here was a Ex Demonstrator that was driven for the 3 Months / 3,000 miles by a family member of the Scottish Dealerships employees. Mother in law of Dealer Principal as i remember. Skoda Approved Used car and the Dealership said, No Warranty, not us gov. Driver error, not the Mother in law though. There are various cases like that i remember. Scottish Dealership Groups.

I remember reading that one and if I remember the clutch/flywheel had no heat marks on it and clutch had completley disintegrated. With the lack of heat marks it looked like a faulty clutch plate. If yours is the same I would point that out and see what they say. If it had been slipped badly before you got the car there should be heat marks on plate.

Good luck

Sorry can not link thread. But the similar repeats over the past years.

Bad news, car needs a new clutch, flywheel and release bearing. There are no signs of manufacting defects or failures, just burnt out/worn down, so warranty won't cover a thing. Price being quoted is circa £2500 all in. I've had a brief google to see similar cases and costs, as well as contact the next nearest Skoda branch.

Seems like a lot of money but maybe thats just how much it costs? :(

After kicking up some fuss in regards to initial recovery issues and accesptance of vehicle delays, theyve knocked. agoo coupld hundered quid off

Thats a fair amount of money . As they arent covering it with warranty I would get it done in a decent independant garage. Got quoted £500 for my sons Fabia clutch which I ended up doing myself as he was going to have to wait three weeks till the garage I sometimes use is always busy. Depending on what Gbox and engine you have I would reckon £500-£600 for parts max and labour on top so £2500 seems high.

Have a look at https://www.partsinmotion.co.uk/ Pur your reg in and check what their prices are for clutch kit and flywheel. I find Sachs/Luk/Valeo are the best brands. It will give you an idea how much labour they are charging you plus dealers are £100 -£150 perhour plus vat where as my local independant is around £65 plus vat.
