Skoda Kamiq Service Schedule Advice

Featured Replies

Hello!

Last summer I purchased a lovely '22 plate Kamiq 1l Petrol. Upon buying the car the dealer (Marshals) told me that the car is on a bi-annual service and having just had one it would not need a service for 2 years. Forgive my ignorance, but what does this mean in reality? Does it need anything at all this year, oil change? Then full service next year?

The info in the system in the car currently reads "Oil change service in 4100 miles or 90 days" and "Inspection in 13400 miles or 455 days"

In addition to this the car did not come with a paper log book of the service history, I was told that this is all digital now - how do I access this outside of Skoda?

Thanks so much!

If set on Variable servicing then you can leave 24 months, or 18,000 months or even only 12 if you want. 18,000-20,000 miles even. But you might well want servicing annually. Safety inspections, brakes serviced, Suspension, steering, tyres etc changed. Pollen filter maybe sooner, Spark plugs or Air Filter at times other than in 2 year apart, or 4 or 6. Forget INSPECTION Service showing. That should have been set as Oil Service times. Or you can have OIL Service & Inspection showing year about. It does not just get an INSPECTION. Fixed, 9,400 miles, 372 days or sooner. Used to be Minor & Major Service, or Interim & Major, or Major / Major. Now Skoda Oil & Inspection Service annual & Extended Scope at 3 years, then at each 2. Service according to how you use the vehicle.

I'll offer a perspective.

First if it says oil service in 90 days I'd suspect that it will need one. If it had been done pre-sale the technician would have re-set the warning indicator. It is possible that they forgot, given the reading you have for inspection service. Ask the supplying dealer.

Any Skoda dealer (in fact any VAG group dealer) should be able to give you a full printout of the electronic service record. If it's not the supplying dealer then they might ask you to pay a small fee. For peace of mind I'd ask the supplying dealer for the record. My Skoda dealer hands out the printout at every visit to the workshop without me needing to ask.

As to servicing, the oil change in particular will be dependant on how you use the car. Lots of short trips, then it would be wise to change the oil as often as every 5000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. Inspection service, you can probably follow what the car tells you to do. If you live in a very dusty environment then I'd change the air filter annually.

Sounds like the car has been set for fixed interval (12mths) servicing. It alternates now between oil service and oil service with inspection.

Are you likely to stick with a Skoda dealer for servicing? If you are, take a look at the All In package, although you can't take it while the car is under warranty, but if it's covered by an Approved Used warranty then I think you can cancel that.
