Squeaky windows

Featured Replies

Hi all. About a month ago a picked up my first car, a 2016 Fabia. The dealership noted 'applied lubricant front window mechanism'

Since driving it the past month, the window was become very squeaky! I've applied silicone spray WD40 today but no fix.

Any other thoughts? The noise is unbearable

Is it the glass or maybe internal mechanism thats making that noise. On my sons mk1 the window slides on what looks more like felt rather than rubber. That sounds like glass on rubber or a bad pulley in door. From memory it has to be dry silcone spray. Think WD40 do a specialist dry lube. If you have used standard silcone spray it may have to be cleaned off first.

Clean the window thoroughly first.

I have used a little french chalk / talcum powder, which worked well on the rubber bits.

Thanks. AG Falco

The exact same thing happens to me, especially during the dry seasons, like spring and summer. Now it's winter here in Chile, and the air is much more humid, so they don't make the noise. But it's unbearable. I hope someone knows how to fix it. I have a 2018 Fabia.

WD40 Silicone spray (not WD40 Multi-purpose lubricant) sprayed on the vertical channels that the windows run in can help.

Exact same issue on my 2018 Fabia Combi. Only on drivers side and so loud. Tried spraying silicone lubricant down onto the rubber but that only lasted a week or two. I think it's because the rubber has deteriorated and is now cracked and very dry. Came here to see if someone had replaced the rubber and if it was a DIY job.

2016 Fabia Monte Carlo here. I had this issue on both windows after picking it up new a month or so ago. Tried lubing up the weatherstrips as recommended here with not much luck. After looking a little more into them I saw that one of the weatherstrips had folded over about half way along and was rubbing, causing some noise. Pulling it back into place fixed that side thank god.

The other window had the noise coming from from somewhere else, deeper in the door, so I had the door card off to see what was what. In the end, it sounded like the noise was coming from the front rail of the window regulator. The fix I found was to get in through one of the bung holes inline with the regulator rail and spread (admittedly a little too much) red grease on the rail and slider, running it up and down 10-15 times.

It's not come back yet, so knock on wood I think that's fixed it.
