Newbie just ordered a ........

Featured Replies

Whilst up in York over the crimbo period I booked a test drive in an Octavia vRS. I was very impressed with the amount of toys you get with it and also the power of the engine. Just as we where walking into the showroom after the test drive I spotted the Fabia vRS which look very nice. So I asked the salesman if we could have a test drive in that as well.

Anyway we took it out and I can say this car was more fun than the Octavia and the engine pulled from as little as 1750 prm when the turbo cut in. I was very very impressed with the car overall but the only thing I would ask VW/Skoda to improve was the interior front dash area... It is functional and that's all I can say about it.

Got back to the show room and agreed to come back over lunch after my wife and I had talked about it and if we really needed a new car.

We then went back to the show room and ordered us a new Black vRS Fabia which is going to be ready to collect in March when the new reg plates are out :hooray:

Now a few questions...

1. I have heard the 130bhp is a little conservative figure and these cars have been known to make about 140bhp+ standard, is this correct ?? (Something about tax laws in other countries) !!!

2. If we get bored of the stock power how much extra can Jabba sport get out of the stock engine ?

3. Is the jabba sport ECU mapping noticable if I got it chipped then took it back to the garage for a service (Just asking for warranty purposes).... ?

Cheers Ivan

:airjock: another convert to the Fabia cause!!!

1. Yes this is correct, you will be looking at around 140 - 150bhp standard.

2 & 3. Jabba (or other tuners) can increase the power to around 180bhp and over 300lbft of torque, With the dealers, if they looked hard enough skoda could find the code, but all a dealer would have to do is drive it to find out that it has been modded due to the exta speed. There are other ways to chip the car both removable, there are tuning boxes which just plug in between the ECU and the injectors, or there is a one click box which plugs into the serial port and you can remove and install them at will.

Used to have a clio 172 which was fecking quick but this is something different and also can give me 55mpg+ which is a bonus...

Yup to all of the above ;)

Well done for ordering a Fabia, you wont regret it.

Have a look about the site, theres plenty on tuning etc and what options there are from AmD, Jabba, Revo etc.

Also have a look for suspension, makes a big difference on the car imho, in terms of looks and driving experiance.

Even chipped you can still get over 50mpg while going over 70mph (on private roads of course), and it's something different from all the Saxo's and other crap power wannabe cars around at the moment. Where in essex you from?

I am near lakeside... I see you are in Buckhurst hill just down the road...

I really live in Loughton (Next door to Buckhurst Hill but harder to make a decent quote from) i was wondering to see if what dealer you were buying from, but as grays is closer i guess the dealer there is where you are going. (by the way there is a meet by J26 (waltham abbey) of the M25 on sunday if you are interested in joining us.

Once again, welcome to Briskoda and congrats on your Furby vRS purchase. You will not be dissapointed! ;) Yet another black one I see.

In answer to your questions

1. Yes. Mine was rollered at 145bhp with just 1800 miles on the clock and still tight.

2. Jabba can extract just over the 180bhp mark and about 310lb ft of torque which is what mine puts out now. Most companies get around the 180 mark, though the torque figures differ slightly.

3. Although there is no visual clues to being 'played' with, any road test will indicate a re-map as there really is that much difference over stock! Also, an in depth look at the ECU codes with VAG-Com etc will show that it has been re-mapped. Just a risk you have to take for the extra performance unfortunately.

Hope you have as much fun with your new vRS as we all seem to have! :D

Rooboy I am getting the car in march and the only thing me and the wife are driving now is a 1.4 16v Megane (I could pop up on the bike I suppose !!) . We bought the car in York as the inlaws bought there Octavia there as they live there and got really got a really good deal on it.

Also someone mentioned to me about xenon light, side airbags, cruise control and switchable front airbags are these options cause if they are I am getting these added tomorrow to the car as it was only ordered Friday anyway ??

Anyone know if you can retro fit climate control as that is the only thing that I miss from SWMBO Octy compared to the Fabia.

It should be fairly simple, but the cost would be prohibitive and it comes waith manual climate control already :smileyrai

We were up there yesterday taking the back roads to epping. The Grays dealership is no more. The adverts stopped a while back and when I asked Neil Preston about it he said they were only servicing now.

It looks as though the only options in the area now are Prestons and Trans City. Not been to Trans City.

What about "Loughton Lout" :)

You make Loughton sound like a small village but i know the roads you mean as the main roads round there are very busy.

Not too keen on Trans city myself, i've never found them very helpful, never tried the one at Southend on the A127, but I've always found Preston Motors very helpful even if I am biased.

"loughton lout": Thank you Faye. that describes me fairly well but i'm after something for the car as i'm not a beast, just not very timid.

  • Author

I thought it was a bit strange when you said about the GRAYS skoda garage cause I don't remember seeing one there. I have seen the one down the a127, it had a rally version octavia sitting on forecourt a few months back...

Just trying to help you by figuring out your nearest dealer for servicing, parts, etc

  • Author

Cheers Rooboy !

Is there anywhere closer than southend ? Not that I am bothered as the car has been bought in York :thumb:

Preston Motors as mentioned above is in Forest Gate, I can recommend them and I think Faye has a good word to say about them too. Apart from that, you are looking towards Northern France as there is a dealer in the Gravesend area, but i'm not sure about if they do servicing there.

  • Author

Ah Gravesend for me is just over the QE2 Bridge (About 20 mins).

Cheers Jeff.

www.skoda.co.uk will give you their adress (could not find my dealer list) for ease, gravesend's post code is DA12

Reviews section is county based to allow for easier dealer locating.

Working on a few things (well mentally working on them) which will take you post code and tell you the distance to a dealer, maybe even one that has +ve rating in the review section.
