Passenger door problem

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a problem with my passenger side front door. When you unlock the car with the remote and try to open the passenger door it only opens a little 'onto the latch' as it were , and refuses to open anymore. To open it you have to close it then try again , next time it opens no problem. This only happens now and again , and only just after the car has been unlocked , once youve gone thru the routine of shutting then trying again , every time after that the door opens fine , untill its locked again that is. Central locking problem??

Duncan

I never got to the bottom of this one, has it only just started?

Reason for asking is mine used to do just that but it has not done it for ages now.

It started doing it a few weeks ago. I dont use the passenger door a lot , as im mostly in the car alone , but i had a load of papers to recycle the other week so I put them in a bag on the pass seat , when i went to open the door at the recycling center it wouldnt open more than an inch , i had to shut it fully and tried again-no problems. It done the same this weekend too , but only the very 1st time after being locked , afterwards its fine all day , unless the car is locked again!! I guess I will have to take it into the dealer , which will give me a chance to show them the repair they done to my accident damage , in which the paint above the door plastic trim (the same door actually , front passenger-is it cursed??) is beginning to go 'white' under the laquer. Hopefully this will be resprayed free.

Duncan,

It may just be a linkage inside the door that needs adjusting slightly. so yes I would take it to the dealer, and if you paint is going white it could be the top layer separating from the paint caused by bad preparation.

duncan,

gary at horner's said that there were loads of people having problems with the central locking.

i had a very similar problem affecting the right rear, but the number of locking/unlocking cycles it took to open became longer until it flatly refused to budge. this was accompanied by the refusal of the 'welcome light' to illuminate on unlocking the car.

attaching a vag-com diagnosed an intermittent fault with the right rear lock. interestingly, the problem completely vanished never to return some weeks later with no intervention (AFAIK) from anyone. possibly divine?!

Thanks for your responses , I will take her into the dealers on sat morning and get them to have a look at both problems.

i,m having some problems with central locking. when i use the unlock button on key all doors unlock except driver door & interior light goes out ,press it again light stays on but still does,nt unlock , have to use key in lock. took it back to brundles near kings lynn & its in for repair on the 10 feb.they said the motor was ok ,seems like the door button is sticking.

courtesy car will be waiting when i take it in......(excellent service so far)

regds ect

Hope dealer sorts it for you without any probs,

Wierd my car today decided to lock all doors when turning the ignition? Did this a few times today locking all doors and leaving the drivers unlocked on another ocassion. I know that on some VAG cars it can be programmed to do something similar, seems like the door control unit is getting confused . Will see what it does tommorrow. And I havn't been washing it or getting it wet or taking it out on salty roads - not used it since the last meet but it will get some use next Sunday  .
