douch-bags at work

Featured Replies

just back to work after my hols, during which i picked up my new octy, got several negative comments from some of my co-workers, such as:

"sure a skoda is just a taxi"

"how is it you spell skoda, c.r.a.p.?"

etc etc

i thought badge snobs were on the decline, ah well.

I used to get that all the time - from a guy who owned a Toyota Avensis

You think that's bad, try owning a Mondeo

I get this at work too about my Fabia estate, so will get the same why I pick up my Octavia too.

And the best return I have used is 'how much did you pay for that common piece of muck?' Normally to company car owners driving around in their Fords and Mazdas.

Or, 'if I was allowed a company car allowance, I too wouldn't care what i was driving'.

I think that it just goes to show that there are still some people out there who think they know about cars but have not got a clue, would be very interested to know these wise guys drive.

If anyone ever laughs i laugh with them..... soon gets boring

however i only laugh as i know they dont know anything about cars...... :)

Everybody who knows cars, doesnt comment about skodas anymore, that was back in the 80's when they were laughable........

I got the same to extent in my place but once each of them was in it you could have heard a pin drop. They were shocked and somewhat envious at the kit, the build quality and the performance I got for the money.

Funny enough, SKADO in greek means '****'. So you imagine the jokes I went through at first with my greek friends over my car.

I got this last week from some people before I picked up my new Octy vRS (my 2nd in a row).

I get comments quite a bit like "I thought you knew about cars" to which I reply, "I do, that is why I have my Skoda!"

It does generally seem to be more women who say it to me too.

Personally, I really don't care at all what anyone else thinks of the car/s I drive. I buy the car/s I want and don't need anyone else's approval.

Doesn't matter what you drive, someone somewhere won't approve.

I have a friend who would dearly love a Fabia vRS but his wife just won't entertain it. She was recently offered a ride in a rather nice slightly enhanced Octy II vRS and flatly refused, on the grounds that it was a Skoda. I can understand that she may have a problem with it but then she drives a MK1 Golf GTi Convertible or Y reg Freelander TDi as a daily run about. Other cars they have in their awesome arsenal include a highly modified R5GTT, Mk3 Golf GTi and a Mk3 VR6 - hmm all reasonable cars in their time but not exactly groundbreaking stuff these days.

I've owned a Felicia for 10 yrs, so I think I must have had just about every joke going thrown at me so many times I automatically switch off. The other one you get these days is, "of course, it's a Volkswagen really".

I heard the best the other day though, on hearing I was looking at getting a Fabia to replace my Felly, someone said "But they are just Polos and VW Polos aren't very good". So now, it's not Skoda that's got the bad reuptation, it's Volkswagen by association hehe.... Nowt so queer as folks.

MK1 Golf GTi Convertible & Mk3 VR6

 Pretty cool, specially the MK1 cab.

Y reg Freelander TDi

:thumbdwn: yuck

R5GTT, Mk3 Golf GTi

Oh dear, ch*v boy central, must wear burberry in them.

Just my take on em anyway, so they aren't really in any position to criticise Skoda, there worst crime being the R5 and the Freelander.

Made me laugh the renault 5 gt turbo........ :P last ones of those i saw was driven by ali G

The ammount of money he has spent on the R5 over the years is frightening probably enough to by him an Octy vRS and his wife a Fabia vRS.

one of the main badge-snobs is driving around in a 8 month old golf 1.4fsi. he just would'nt believe it when i pointed out to him that the two cars are basically the same underneath, until i showed him some of the vw stamped parts in my octy engine bay. when i also pointed out that i spent the same money as him yet have a bigger engine, 1.6fsi, and boot he reply was "but i bought quality instead", i mean wtf?

I had shedloads of abuse when I got my first Skoda in 1999. Since then (now on Skoda number 4) the attitude has softened to a grudging respect - "Yeah, it's a nice car your Skoda, but I couldn't bring myself to buy one". More fool them......

You only have to point out a few things like residuals, JD power survey and cost price.

The Fabia vRS has a better 3 year residual than it's VW and SEAT equivelent.

If you get a snotty VW driver, tell them they paid too much for their Skoda.

a MK1 Golf GTi Convertible

 Hush my Velma's little ears.

I had a classic thrown at me recentely at work. Whilst teasing a colleague about how awful his crash helmet was, he replied....Well, I'm not gonna take style advice off of you am I? You drive a skoda...

Cracked me up!

I also hold the view that those who make negative comments about Skodas know nothing about cars

I usually just make them sit through the whole minute and a half of the Baron being smoked... :D

Rob.

I get the anti-Skoda stuff all the time here in NZ - the reputation is still where it was in the UK about 3-4 years ago.

They do the skoda jokes (why do they have a heated rear window.. etc) and I join in, which seems to take the fun out of it for them :)

I seem to have a bit of a reputation in Wellington IT circles as "the idiot who actually imported a Skoda" and people act as though it's a big joke, but I know the truth!

I love my car I do!

Funny - I get mostly the opposite, like "Skoda's are really good these days, aren't they!" and, "What a terrific colour - looks really smart", and "Jeez, your car has the best sized boot I've seen in ages". I must live amongst "the educated"!!!

I've had exactly the same. No funny comments, just respect.

I think I'll try that.
