Rear seats---am I stupid or what?

Featured Replies

Had my Octavia 20 months. Need to carry a full load of heavy boxes. Unlatched backs of rear seats and the fell forwards with a purposeful thump. And provide me with a nicely carpeted incline at about 20 degrees. Useless.

Never mind I thought just like my previous wonderful Xantia I will just fold the squabs of the rear seats up out of the way and get a lovely flat floor. Or not as the case may be.

Is that it then ?

A 20 degree slope and not a flat floor. Hatchback by the way not an estate which may be different.

Am I missing something due to advanced red wine brain rot ?

No thats it I'm afraid. I believe you can buy a flat floor as an option but as far as a standard hatch goes then it is slope city.

Don't the squabs pull forward a bit, letting the backs drop lower? I thought mine did last time I looked!

Can you remove the bit you sit on This will allow the back rests to fall completly flat

In the Fabia the squabs fold up, remove the head rests and pop em in the holes in the squabs, then the bases lie nearly totally flat... surely the Octy is the same?

Is this to make it go faster?

The seat-squabs lift forward (so they face against the front seats) remove the headrests, and they will fold flat

Yup, its in the manual. You can also take the squabs out completely by pinching together the wire clamp for extra length, ooo er

I'm not sure you can on the Octavia 2 as the base doesnt flip forward, this is due I believe to the ISO fix fittings that go under the back edge of the swab.

Mine in the RS II dont fold flat like they did in my first RS..... the old ones pivoted forward then down..... these ones are stuck.

My RS II back seats fold flat... maybe the spec is different in the UK...

Yeah if you rip them up you can get the seats flat....... they aint supposed to move by the looks of things though

on mine it does..exactly the same as my old 'tavia...pull it forward and flip it up..or you can take it off altogether..se the seat backs dont go 100% flat but it nearly is

Yup mine folds flat too, same as the old Octy (which also had isofix incidentally)

Domhnall

Yup, they go flat or as near as dammit.

The painful part isn't taking off the headrests tho.... it's what to do with them!

Ever try to explain how mud got on the top of a headrest????

in the estate you don't have to take them off, the seat bases in the new Octy seem to have recesses so the head rests can stay in place (if you push them right down before folding flat), so no I've never had to explain mud :-)

On the Fabia the head rests slot into two holes on the now upturned seat bases.

Yep, just tried several in the showroom 06 & 07 models, pull up the front edge of the squab to release it, then fold it forward. To get it fully flat you must remove the headrest though

So there you go. A fine example of RTFM. :o Yes the seats do fold flat. Doh!

you can fold the seat bases forward and drop the backrest (almost)level without removing the headrests - a bit tight but can be done.

Don't take this the wrong way chaps but it amazes me how many people don't read the book. Not even whilst on the big white porcelain telephone !?!?

Now ain't that a great idea...

first thing I did...there was lots of new toys so needed to know how they worked!

I think Ants has hit the nail on the head with this comment - its the having to pull up the front edge of the squab first that confused me at first with my Octy 1 estate. Sounds like its similar with the Octy 2

OK chaps let me tell you.

I spent about 2 hours this pm trying to find out how my rear seat squabs will move in any direction.

If I yank the front of the squab very very hard two brass coloured things like halves of a link of chain pop out of plastic lined holes in the structure of the car underneath the seats. By tugging very hard on the edge of the seat I can raise it about 5 inches to peer underneath.

The squab is in one piece -not split like the backrest-- and the back edge is totally completely utterly absolutely firmly immovably fastened to the floor. Period. The only way to move it would be a crowbar. However it must be removable in the event it ever gets damaged and needs replacing. So I will find out how.

There is no question of sliding it forwards or even getting my fingers down the back to try to pull the squab upwards.

My car is a Spanish version so it must be some c--p spec.

Many thanks for your help which turned out to be no help, especially cracks about reading the book. The handbook does say for the estate that the spring things have to be squesed together but mine has none.

damned annoying. Another moaning E mail to Mlada bolaslav.

sounds like its different then as the squab on my uk car is split exactly like the seat backs..will try to get some pics today
