new vrs TDI

Featured Replies

I went to pick up my petrol vrs yesterday, after it had been in getting a rattle repaired. After being shown the new roomster I got onto the subject of the vrs diesel. I found out they had one outside, so I had to have a go.

All I can say is what a machine. Yes its not as quick of the line as the petrol, but once you get going I truly believe that a petrol version would have no chance between the 40-70mph mark against it.

Has anyone else had a test drive?

One member had had one since the begining of the month, he seems very impressed with his.

yeah I was so impressed Iam thinking of changing. Although best not tell the wife that. The plan is to get thesame colour so she wont tell the difference:)

I had short drive in one. Liked it but then again I'm really enjoying being back in a petrol again and I am surprised with the economy of the petrol.

I can just picture the scene at the petrol (diesel?) station now!

Or about 100 yeard down the road as she has filled the TDI with super unleaded :P

My wife probably wouldn't notice if I change the car for something completly different.

A change from Petrol to Diesel could be the only issue

Im interested to see how the economy of the diesel stacks up..

I know the TFSI is very economical as far as 200bhp petrol engines go:rofl:

but looking over on SCN, they seem to be struggling to get over 43mpg in the 170bhp leon FR - which ISNT great for a diesel, considering i get around 55-60mpg in my 170odd bhp fabia on my work journeys;)

Our Petrol demonstrator has been doing high 30s, the TDI is not run in yet but is already into the 40s, I'll keep you updated as things progress

I'm normally mid 30's and have managed 40 mpg on a short (30 mile) run with the cruise on keeping up with traffic in the outside lane of the motorway ;)

ya see thats great for a 200bhp engine.. :D

ive also been reading about the 170 cant be reliably chipped because of the particulate filter..

It's certainly better than I was expecting to be honest Colin, harking back to Subaru days I was expecting 20mpg around town to be honest.

If you read the hype it is one of the benifits of the TFSi engine, power when you need it and economy when you don't.

When you factor in the slightly more expensive Diesel, fixed 10k servicing and higher purchase price I think the 170 is only really viable for high milers.

The only thorn in the side might be higher residuals but we don't really know yet.

Low insurance was a nice surprise too.

So the 170 is still fixed 10k services... damn!

Consideirng my furby has done 75k now in three years, thats a f00kload of money in *cough* maindealer servicing.. so maybe i would be better with the petrol version.. guess ill wait for a testdrive of the tdi to put my mind at rest

Oi Ants.. hows the testdrive booking sheet lookin for that vRS tdi ;):D

I'm only assuming that as it's still a PD in essence.

He works there doesn't he!!

Could do with comfirmation of that... my dads TDi 105 elegance is on variable servicing..

QG1 sticker in our demo = variable!

QG1 sticker in our demo = variable!

Thats pretty good news then.

Exactly.

do you think the tdi 170 will come out in a dsg version or would all the torque break it?

  • Author

forget that just noticed the passat has it with a dsg box

Apart from not having some of the other goodies of the elegance or L&K, the one thing that would stop me from buying a VRS, would be the NON DSG option.

Other VAG cars with the 170 BHP diesel have the DSG why not Skoda?

Also, how come the petrol Golf GTI has a DSG option but not the petrol Skoda VRS?

My TDi140 is on variable servicing, 1st service became due a little over 18k which was earlier than I was expecting as the Audi was nearly always around the 20k mark.

That was a month ago and I've already covered 5k!

Brand separation...

if the Octy was available with DSG it would steal sales from the Golf GTI....

I only used to get around 43mpg in my furby, the migration to the Octy has been fairly painless in the fuel department so far.

I loved the furby but I discovered that diesel was just not for me, I like the characteristics of a petrol engine. I can't see the diesel vRS getting the jump on the petrol because if it did use the killer midrange, the petrol would drop a gear and use it's top end.

Pity Goochie does not work on an airfield anymore, I would love to see or even go head to head with a diesel vRS, my experience with the furby taught me that all the low down torque made it "feel" much faster than it actually was, probably the same in the Octy vRS petrol.

just my tuppence worth
