Power increase for 1.9TDI 90bhp?

Featured Replies

Hi - I've just bought a 2003 Octavia Ambiente with a 1.9TDI 90 bhp engine. Great fuel consumption, but I'd like a bit more urge. I've read that there's a inline electrical 'chip' that can take the power up to 110 bhp. Is this true/are there any disadvantages or probs with this/is it easy to fit/where can I get one/how much?

Thanks

i got my 2004 model remapped to 120bhp and its brilliant. what a difference! that would be the way to do it mot chips. also it ment to be harder to find by the dealers as it looks like a skoda map!

The 'real' 110 engine has larger injectors and a different turbo, however a remap of a 90 should achieve this power output.

You would have to tell your insurance about any of this, and obviously depending on the device it could cause faster wear or more smoke, although this would generally only be with the nasty devices that you can buy off e-bay rather than a reputable supplier.

I would try the suppliers advertised on here, also look at superchips, tune-it boxes and car magazines.

where does the chip go (location) on the 1.9 TDi / 110 bhp Octy mk1?

not too sure but i think that you can also find some tuning boxes like dragon, steinbauer, racechip pro and so on that can be fitted in a few minutes and provide some power increase. friend of mine has one of those boxes in his 2.5 dci common rail Nissan navara and it works very good.

hope it helps

dragon boxes and the like are only for PD engines AFAIK. The cheap ebay resistor boxes are on the wiring from a temperature sensor (coolant temp sensor?) - makes the engine think it's colder than it and so adds more fuel. With a remap your actually changing the software in the ECU, although on the older cars it requires physically changing a chip on the ecu.

The ebay resistor boxes can cause all sorts of problems and cost a ridiculous amoutn considering it's a resistor that cost a few pence in a box. A search will reveal all.

You can get Dragon boxes for the 110TDi (non-PD) engine, although I think they are relatively rare and hard to track down these days, I would therefore assume they would be a Dragon box for the 90 as well.

i started of with a stienback tuning box[rossiters]. it was a great intro to performance enhancement. i then moved to a rocketchip re map with bigger injector nozzels[Tdiclub.com] bosio power plus [pp520/ 502s or 764s]. added a boostfactory larger SMIC, a VNT17/22 hybrid, a passengerperformance 3" down pipe ++. you decide when your time/money runs out.cheers.
