Our Father who art in.....BEEP BEEP BEEP

Featured Replies

I went to a show that would not let dogs in and there were loads left in cars. They had Rspca Inspectors patroling the car park keeping an eye on the dogs but unless something happened to the dog Ie they were in imminent danger of dying then the inspectors were powerless to act. In most cases though an embarracing announcment over the tannoy " could cx51 ### go back to car as your dog is distressed" seemed to do the trick. also I know someone who leaves there dog in a consevatory all day while they work which is just nuts. Told the rspca about it and they dont want to know!

Very good point, you are right. I don't make a habbit of that mind, and I did not think it would be no dogs.

Sorry to come in on this but, in the Trax Bbq thread(No:-40), you stated you "Will have the dog with you".

Pythix in (No:-41) stated that no pets were not allowed.

Devonutopia in (No:-43) told you the same, this being that no dogs were allowed.

Yet you still brought the dog on one of the hottest days we have had, and one that most of us got sun burnt on.?????????????????????????

Emily, no one doubts your love of the animal, but you are doing yourself and Briskoda no favours by still taking the dog to somewhere that you knew they were not allowed, the steward who told you to remove the dog knew which stand you were part of.

Also, just ask yourself how you would have felt had a car run over her on their way to the track for a session?

Surely this is in the past now? Can't it be left there? I don't see any point in ranting on about this.:thumbdwn:

Yash - I would not say that Gerry is ranting on about this, but simply pointing out a few contradictions.

I had my TRAX tickets put by for a young lady who replied first to my thread then jiggered her PC and I ended up dropping them in the bin ..... what a waste

but OT - Press the button twice

I did car parking duties at an RSPCA annual fund raiser for a few years, and you would not believe how many people left their dogs in their cars, window open a crack, on 20/25+ degree days. Made for some interesting announcements over the PA.....

RSPCA do have powers to break windows if they believe the dog is in danger, of course this is subjective - same as most Police powers are.

As for taking a dog to track days - what effect do you think that has on their hearing? Not to mention all the exhaust fumes (and soot!).

"As for taking a dog to track days - what effect do you think that has on their hearing? Not to mention all the exhaust fumes (and soot!)."

Well my dog regularly goes hunting with me and has no problem the loudness of a 12 gauge so I assure you noise wouldn’t be an issue.

As with regards to the fumes, doubt it would be any different than walking through a town centre?

Dont suppose noise would be an issue. Gun dogs seem just fine and if the dog is not bothered by noise, it will most likely get bored and go to sleep. Issues for me would be if the dog is well enough behaved to keep away from the moving vehicles. My friend used to bring two springer spaniels to the rifle club. They used to sit by the clubhouse and be made a fuss of by everyone, but never ever wandered off or went anywhere near the range. Just very well trained. Only issue I can see is how the dog does riding in the hatch on high speed corners:rofl: I also visualised Princess in the passenger seat leaning into the corners wearing a wide eyed expression and uttering the doggy equivalent of 'kin ell!

As Chris has rightly pointed out Princess is a gun dog and she is not bothered by loud noises. On the farm where we kept our horses they would often shoot pheasents and Princess did not careless about the bangs. We never have to worry about her with fireworks, we used to take her to the massive firework competition in that happens anually in Plymouth without a worry. I expect the sound of some revving engines is nothing compared to being deafened by a car alarm myself.

And the soot? Am I a bad dog owner because I don't make her wear one of those anti-pollution masks when I take her for walks? She is a dog not Michael Jackson FFS!

I honestly had no idea that Trax would not be a no dog event until Leon (who was infront of me in the cue to get in) rang my phone to let me know. I had never been to car show before - and I had no idea what to expect. The post about dogs not being allowed at Trax I did not read. You can appreciate that there was a lot of post relating to diffrent people in the Trax threads and I missed the posts that Brenadetta (or whatever his username is) has now pointed out to me.

I love my dog loads, and I know that that fact is not what is being argued over - I would not do anything that would cause her distress or harm in anyway.

Personally I think that leaving the dog in the car for half an hour while I do my shopping (for example) is nicer than making her spend ages at home. Typically take Prin for a walk along the river then go to Sainsbury's, if it is a very hot day I will tie her up outside the store, but she would rather be in the car.

My point about noise was more rhetorical, particulary following the usual advice from RSPCA etc on Fireworks night etc. And I did not assume Princess to be a gun dog - who would with that name:rofl:

Soot - with the dog being about exhaust high - and with some tweaked diesel's around (not looking in anyone's direction....!).

Sorry - but the rest of your post seems flawed to me - particular when you consider the info already posted in this thread regarding hot car temps.

How far away is your supermarket? Surely she would only be at home for 30 mins plus commuting time - not exactly ages?

Unlike when she walks down the street where there are no cars, buses or lorries chucking out lots of soot

I thought that this was a Skoda forum. Not one for discussing fookin' DOGS!

Never mind political correctness this is Animal correctness gone wrong, bloody do gooders;

All the best Emily i'm sure your excellent with your dog, keep doing what your doing and just ignore other people, who cares what they think anyway, what gives them the right to comment?

"who cares what they think anyway, what gives them the right to comment?"

A forum gives people the right to comment. I have 2 dogs and I dont agree with dragging them about everywhere especially to a wedding. There is no dougt the dog is loved but thats not the whole picture. Lummox and the others have some very good points.

Hi,

Don't make your own standards by other peoples lack of them!

John

everyone has differing views on what is right and what is wrong and how you look after and bring up kids and dogs and god knows whatelse but at the end of the day its up to the induvidual and if the dogs not distressed or suffering in anyway then whats the problem. My dog comes nearly everywhere with me and i would not have it anyother way if a show is not dog friendly then I would leave him with my folks but more often or not I would prob not go. went to loads of shows over summer that were dog friendly and I there are a lot of shows that are not dog friendly for no reason that I can think of. There is as much chance or even more chance (dogs on leads) of a child or drunk adult getting hit by a car at a show than a dog . We have loads of beaches round here where dogs are banned in summer cos they **** on them but then you see just how much **** the tourists leave behind ( bottles, bags dirty nappies etc) and you start to wonder who should be banned from them. Dogs are mans best friend..... period

look after him and he will look after you.

jesus did I say all that:)

Thank you! :)

Princess is 10 years old in November, do you think she would have made it this long in the world if I had roasted her to death in a hot car or given her lung cancer by not protecting her from exhaust fumes?

I have done everything with Princess in the last few years. She was Adrian Mole's dog in our School production, she used to trot along behind my horse. As I type this at the moment I am curled up in bed (oh the joys of wireless). The reason I am having to curl up so much is Princess is luxuriously spread across the middle of the bed, snoring her head off and generally living a fairy tale existance (or that of a princess).

I am not change the way I look after my dog - if it ain't broke then......

but what if no one asked for their opinion in the 1st place, she was only asking how to disable her car alarm FFS? and even if they give their opinion you don't have to listen to them, just like i won't be looking at this thread again to see your response to this post :P

I'm struggling with this idea that weddings are a particularly dog-hostile environment ...

Surely Emily has taken enough punishment now? All she did was ask how to disable her car alarm...

The whole point of the forum is it gives you a chance to read the WHOLE post, and comment accordingly. I dare say if this conversation happened at the Briskoda stand during a show, the exact same comments would have been made - but being face to face they would have been taken at a more friendly value.

We can either have a forum where you get the answer, and the answer only OR we can have the kind of forum we do have, where people take the time to read and respond to the whole issue - whatever that maybe. How many times have people commented on fast road driving, illegal speed detectors etc?

I feel my chiming in has not really done us any favours here - paticulary when Lummox had already covered the point very succiently. So I apologise for adding my .2p, - but I don't apologise for the content of the comments.

I'm struggling with this idea that weddings are a particularly dog-hostile environment ..

I know of one wedding that won't be, a very good friend is getting married, not only will her dog be there, she's going to train it to be the ring-bearer. :P

As for keeping the god in the car, needs must..

I wondered why you'd titled this thread as it is.. but now I understand.

"I know of one wedding that won't be, a very good friend is getting married, not only will her dog be there, she's going to train it to be the ring-bearer. "

That could be very funny to watch!

Sorry to but in on the dog conversation but just read the original post........ Where abouts are the internal motion sensers in the Furby????? I can't seem to see them anywhere?

Cheers

Dave.
