Picked up the car on Friday and got the MFD2 in at the weekend, just fitted the new trim now (1Z0858069L2AU -

The MFD2 looks the dogs when fitted, I agree it's not the quickest or the most sophisticated system in town but as long as you have a reasonably up to date map CD it's just as good as the others at getting you from A to B

I'm looking at buying the MFD2 on e bay but a number of them are old maps, does anyone know where I can purchase new cd's from??

Just had the genuine roof combination aerial fitted (radio/GPS/GSM) :). I got it off the same scrapped car as my MFD2 came out of!

It's a foregone conclusion that a roof mounted aerial with a perfect view of the sky will work better than one stuffed under the dash

Looks like an expensive month for you then :D

Depends on VRStu!

However I've just fitted a Denison Gateway 300 Ice Link for Ipod Video, so much more spending and SWMBO will be alerted to my activities!!

Agreed about the line of sight from the aerial, the under dash one didn't do a bad job, I just preferred the factory fit one, hence wanting the Maxidot!!!!! Still by the time I'm done it will have cost a lot less than the

OK got to bottom of TMC not working despite all settings correct:

MFD2 DVD does not support TMC in UK according to teleatlas and that includes 2007/2008 discs!

So if you want active re-routing in UK go for the MFD2 CD version!

I've mentioned the lack of TMC on the MFD2 DVD version before, but I've heard a rumour that TMC is either now available, or will be soon. Quite which DVD version you'll need I'm not sure yet.

Thanks Swing, if you hear any more I would be very interested as it's the only real downside that I've found since installing

New MFD2 owner reporting in. Just closed a deal in eBay for MFD2 + gps antenna + map cd + code card combo.

Just one question which is not so directly related to MFD2 but more to it's functions. I've seen in some youtube videos how they change the multifunction display state from MF -> Audio -> Navigation -> Setup and back very fast. Is there an easier way to change the display modes than with the right hand stalk pressing?

Thanks.

Not to my knowledge, they may have doctored the video to keep the running time short. Either that or there are a few software mods/boxes of tricks out there to speed things up.

Good luck with the install

Ok, that's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure :)

And thanks.:D

One question about the coding of MFD2.

I'm struggling to decipher the coding mentioned on Stu's sites otherwise excellent MFD2 install guide.

I have the normal 8 speaker setup + multifunction steering + XCarLink MP3 working as a CDChanger.

From what I've gotten out from Ross Wiki, it seems that my soft coding for the radio part should be : 0004402. Which means MFSW + 4 passive speakers (Front & Rear) + No sound system correction + CdChanger. On Stu's guide the closest coding to my setup proposed is :

" Softcode should read 00412 for an Octavia fitted with 4 speakers (or more but not DSP Sound System), Cloth interior and a CD Changer".

What I'm struggling to understand is that why the soft coding has sound system correction enabled for cloth interior even if the sound system is not available? Wouldn't this give an error in the system?

Could someone please clarify this to me? Thanks.

It's been a while since I looked at it but IIRC it uses the cloth interior because it wasn't quite full leather.

Your best bet is to follow the ballon guide in VAG-COM.

Ok, thanks.

The thing I wonder is that why would you enable a "correction" in softcoding even if you don't have a soundsystem installed. This is what it says about it on Ross-Tech WIKI :

00xxx?x: Sound System Correction

  • 0 = No Sound System (No Correction)
  • 1 = Sound System with Cloth Interior (with Open Circuit Recognition)
  • 2 = Sound System with Leather Interior (with Open Circuit Recognition)
  • 3 = Sound System with Cloth Interior (without Open Circuit Recognition)

So if I enable the correction to 1 = Cloth interior, does it actually do anything? Is there a correction DSP in MFD2 unit or is this really a SS feature only?

Thanks.

We've never had any problems but that is something I don't remember seeing before,

Ok, so then I don't need to care about it probably. Just set it to 0.

Hmm..or maybe I'm in a mood for little experimenting :)

Package arrived today. Damn it was fast delivery. I got delivery message from the dealer on wednesday and today it was on our nearest post office ready for pickup. And the packing was excellent.

Oh, the dealer was naviandbmwparts.

The installation and coding the device was easy thanks to installation guide from Octavia-vrs.com. Sadly my dealer couldn't get the frame this week. It had to be factory ordered so next week.

Well, what's it like. PERFECT! The navigation works absolutely fantastatic. And it looks excellent :) And it sounds A LOT better than the regular Stream radio.

Funny thing is that now the Xcarlink mp3 module works flawlessly. The track and folder changes are instant. There's no pause at all.

Only thing I miss is that for some reason it doesn't show volume on the MaxiDot anymore. Only on the HU display. Maybe because it's not numeric volume display anymore as in Stream?

You won't get the volume level on the MaxiDot as the MFD2 doesn't use a numerical volume level as you say.

You also lose the Climatronic symbols in addition to the PDC graphics that used to appear on the Stream but you will forget about it in a week or so.

Also, you might need to tweak your PDC beeps with VAG-COM as the MFD2 doesn't mute when in reverse. I raised the pitch and volume slightly to make it easier to hear over the music.

The added functions in MFD2 more than enough compensate for the loss of those.:D

That was actually ok, don't think I need to mess with that.

I have my music at an unhealthy volume most of the time so it's more likely a personal preference :D

Well, first problem arrived. The Xcarlink isn't working as good as I thought at first.

If the car is not running and I turn on the radio and select the cd option, the Xcarlink works just fine. But if the radio is not on and I start the car, it cannot access the usb stick anymore??? It doesn't even activate the xcarlink module (no blue light).

If I keep the radio on and start the car the xcarlink works ok.

Edit :

Xcarlink still not working  Will look for a Solisto.

Got my radio frame on monday. (Finally).

Got the G version for Climatronic and that is a one for cars with phone preparation. The C version is for cars without.

Heres how it looks like :

I can live with the small gap. This frame was 7.5 euros and the C version was 25 euros. I wonder why :)

Also played with the sound correction setting in soft coding a little bit. And I can say that the unit sounds definetly a LOT better when the sound correction is set to cloth interior. First I had it on "No correction" setting and the sound was flat and dull sounding. Now it's much more defined.
