Will PM you both.

looks good that mate is there anything like that for the fabia around

The problem as I have said before is that the eBay ones tend to be supplied with a magnetic base antenna which is tuned to use a large metal surrounding surface to radiate the signal. The one that I and one or two others are now running, with better results, is not a magnetic base type.

I'm sorry mate but I disagree with you here.

All My GPS antenna's (I run a cab fleet with GPS Tracking) have magnetic bases, they are simply to mount the antenna externaly directly on the bodywork, and it makes no difference whatsoever if they are mounted to a metal surface or simply on the dashboard by the front screen.

Indeed both the antennas on my Superb were mounted under the dash (both magnetic and both different makes), one for the Autocab system and one for the MFD navigation I fitted, always had full signal all the time unless in a tunnel or somewhere.

I fail to see how infact a metal panel could help in any way? and the OE fitment antennas are not in contact with the roof either, they are insulated from it in fact.

I am only relaying what I have been told by someone who knows about antenna.

Bear in mind, John, that when we say "No Fix" we don't mean that the satnav mapping system has lost us and doesn't know where we are. If you never left the map view you wouldn't know that there was an issue. Just wanted to clarify that first.

What I found was that with the supplied antenna, the map got it completely wrong one time and jumped me onto a parallel road temporarily another. The rest of the time it worked fine. Switching to compass view I found that I was getting "No Fix" a surprisingly large amount. After speaking with someone who knows his stuff, it transpired that the antenna I was using was not designed for use placed where I had it. I bought one that was and things are very much better, but "No Fix" still happens. Same as with my friend's (Civic) factory-fit unit.

I fitted my mfd2 a fortnight ago, i got it from autopark on flea bay, its certainly alot cheaper than the dealer option!!! I'd like to thank vrs stu for having such a good site with the step by step fitting of the unit. The hardest bit for me was removing storage compartement.

Good to see another satisfied owner.

Thanks for the kind words.

not sure if i mentioned it when mine went in but thanks also for the top write up. was very helpful when taking things apart and putting back together

message for Stu

Many thanks for the MFD2 instructions on your website, just one query you list 2 satin black climatronic trims ie

1Z0 858 069 C 9B9 - Trim for climatronic switch for vehicles with navigation system satin black -

In a word Geoff, No!!

Those are the numbers listed in the parts catalogue, your dealer can confirm the correct one for you when ordering.

isnt one of them with the phone prep?

here

the G seems to be phone mount so i guess i ordered the C but i havent got the notes i took to the dealer now

Thanks I've phoned the dealer & he confirms it is the C version I need

Late in coming into this post but it seems we have a 'master tech' on antennas here.........:D

I'm glad you've arrived - perhaps you could explain!!

does anyone know what the third antenna socket next to the white radio one is for?

just fitted mine off fleabay, chuffed to nuts with it.

just wish I hadn't left a cd in the old unit :o :O :o

anyone know where can I get an up to date cd from at a reasonable price?

  • 3 months later...
I'm ordering a GPS/GSM/FM roof aerial come pay day.

That'll be fun............

Did you? If you did, how much of a pain was it to fit? I have used the under dash antenna, but I think it gets a very limited line of sight especially in cities with tall buildings and narrow streets. Our local dealer reckons they have done this for a customer already, so it would be interesting to know if it can be done at home and how long it took  I was also going to ask our local car Audio dealer for a comparative cost as well.

Cheers:thumbup:

Never happened mate, it's all money and i have a long list of things to spend it on.

I might do it on the L&K when it arrives because the first thing i'll do is fit the MFD2 in it.

Silver MFD2 trim or make a gloss black trim for it? decisions decisions...............

I know what you are saying about the cash!!

Keep me posted if you do! Did you get any prices for the antenna & leads? I've been looking at what is involved in dropping the headlining & I'm not sure that it is as bad a some make out! There again i've only done it on a couple of others cars and that's no guarantee!

I'm not sure on the trim colour, I was disapointed with the finish of the silver one as it wasn't a good match to the rest of the silver trim, looked slightly flat to me & reminded me of the trim in my old mk1 Fiesta! However a gloss "piano style" black could be very interesting!

You have now set me thinking  !!

The reason I am thinking piano black is because the new L&K has this type of detailing and the silver might be too much

I was suprised by the silver MFD2 trim as it looked like someone had attacked it with a silver spray can but it still lifts the look of the dash.

I got some prices from the parts department from my local Skoda dealer and that's what put me off, the parts manager pulled a face at the suggestion of dropping the roof lining. you can get non OEM aerials but thats purely a personal choice.

If anything changes I will post it here.

Hello All,

Had my MFD 2 in for a while and has worked well apart from 2-3 sat signal dropouts for 20-30 mins on long journeys.

When I fitted with guidance from these forums I was aware that the MFD 2 does not support the aux audio in of the original stream audio system my question is, can this be reinstated for MFD 2 in some way so I can plug in my MP3 player.

Any responses greatly appreciated. :)
