MFD2 is IN...............

Featured Replies

Mine did. Subsequently Stu has recoded my gateway.

Who's to say that there would have been problems but I am happier that it has been done.

did your MFd2 work without recoding the can gateway as per stu's website, and if it did what are the disadvantages of not recoding?

cheers

Geoff

it worked ok and the maxidot is working but thats not to say it isnt carrying the error codes as per vrstus website. unfortunately i dont think theres anyone in the north wales area that has vag-com who could recode it for me. its in the dealers next week for a lighting fix, would they be able to recode it?

I bought from Dj.kolia too, no problems, excellent unit, well packaged and delivered faster than I thought! Finally got my silver surround yesterday so only 1 job left - fit a power switch for the audio/video box on to 1 of the blanks on the center console. Does anybody on here know where I can get a small 12v luminating push button switch from?

oh and I havent can bus'ed mine and the unit has once crashed the maxidot around 3 days after I fitted the unit but hasn't done it since.

I need to remove my mfd2 surround to fit an alternative antenna - can anyone remind me where the clips are on it so that I can (hopefully) remove it without damaging it...?

Fanks, Stu,

Thought the mfd2 clips were located in a different place to the stream surround...

Don't think so mate, they still need to occupy the same recepticles in the dash.

Thanks :)

Anybody after a bargain Skoda MFD2? DJ.kolia who I got my unit from is selling one on eBay with a start price of only

The multiple-store-card-as-trim-removal-tool technique I just employed almost ended in heartache when one of the cards slipped inside of the dash. Was *just* able to retrieve it! Man that would have been a rattle that drove me mental for years...

Thanks again for the clip-map, Stu.

Is the new Antenna ok?

I think you will be running the same one as me now.

Seems on a very short test run to get "No Fix" less of the time - which is best I could hope for. And peace of mind knowing it's as good as it can be without a roofmount was worth the 25 notes.

Took car in for servicing today & no mention was made of any error codes due to fitting MFD2 seems to work ok anyway.

Any Vag-Com people in the North Yorks area?

same with mine yesterday but my tunnel lights still arnt fixed :(

Few more days running, "No Fix" is probably 10% or less of the time on my normal routes - used to be more like 60-70%.

Very happy with my purchase :)

Maybe I'm missing the point but does it really matter if the GPS receiver is only working 20/30% of the time, surely thats why the unit has the gala signal too. The manual states that reception will be worse in bad weather and that appears to be the case at the moment for me regarding the signal but the nav unit still works fine. I had most dots lit up during the end of summer and now its around 3 most of the time but it very rarely puts me on the wrong road and even rarer struggles to get a fix.

It got utterly baffled one time I tried to use it. Misjudged a roundabout then had me driving through fields and allsorts. Never got a fix the entire journey.

There's definately something wrong with you guys set ups.

You should have a good fix almost 100% of the time, the only time you should lose fix completely is when your in a tunnel or a very built up area with very tall buildings surrounding you (i'm talking high rise), the system should rely on the GPS signal not the Gala, the Gala is not very accurate and is simply there for the brief moments when you might lose GPS in tunnels for example.

Maybe with a factory fit unit and roof antenna :) Given the inboard, under-dash location of my antenna I'm pretty happy with the signal. And you'd be pretty amazed (at least I was) with how much the Gala and ABS sensors can fill-in. I was getting massive gaps before - the system dealt with them very well most of the time. I just wanted those gaps reduced.

ive got mine in the dash too and i havent noticed any dropouts on the signal yet. does it say "no fix" on teh maxidot or the head unit?

the gps unit im using came with the head unit from dj.kolia on ebay

You'll only see "No Fix" in the Compass view IIRC (although I don't have Maxidot). The system will very rarely (if ever on a factory fit?) actually lose your location.

ah, i dont have the compass view on often.

The problem as I have said before is that the eBay ones tend to be supplied with a magnetic base antenna which is tuned to use a large metal surrounding surface to radiate the signal. The one that I and one or two others are now running, with better results, is not a magnetic base type.

Message for Stu, could you let me know which antenna your using & where I can purchase one

Thanks
