Button near cigarette lighter on Octavia

Featured Replies

I haven't got my Octavia and just wondered what the button was next to the cigrette lighter on the Octavia. Is it a central locking control i.e. anti-hijack?

That button locks/unlocks the car doors

Hope it is standard on UK cars now? I read on another post that anti-hijack locks weren't included as a feature.

don't know if it is standard on all models but certinly come with the Elegance.

Wouldn't go as far as to say it is anti hijacking as it is a manual control.

As standard one button push on the key fob opens the drivers dor only and two pushes are require to unlock all doors and boot. Th ebutton next to the cig lighter can be used to open all teh other doors if you have etered with one click a and then want other doors open (i.e. when you get wre you are going and want something out of boot)

Dealer can, if you wish, set car up so that one click unlocks all.

Can also, I think, set up car so that it locks its self once you are on the move

As has been said , the button unlocks and locks all the doors.

Auto-locking of the doors when you pull off isn't enabled as standard , but a dealer can do this for you.

It is fitted to my wife's Fabial Classis so I would expect it to be on all Ocky models.

It's on my Ambiente, and works as described :-)

I asked my dealer to enable the anti-hijack feature before I picked up my Octy Elegance. It automatically locks the doors when I reach 15 or 20 kph.

Its a pretty quick thing for them to do - probably free at a service or if you ask them nicely.

I believe it can also be done via VAGCOM if you know anyone with it. It was done on my Octy 1 vRS by a member on here at one of the meets, and only cost me a pint!

Yep..I've got it as standard on our Octy 2 Classic

Never noticed the button down there! was wondering how you unlock the other doors without the remote. Got my car 3 weeks ago but been away on holiday for 2 weeks plus and forgotton everything I was told at the dealers!

I don't think I'll be going to the Isle of Wight on my holidays,

if car-jacking is such a worry!!!

Although I drive with my doors locked,

because I've has several people get in thinking I was a taxi!!

Us simple Island folk get worried driving off the Isle of Wight on the big mainland. We get scared that someone will steal our turnips on the back seat.

YOU WERE TOLD THINGS AT THE DEALERS !!!???

I always got told at the dealers that I might use my dead locks in London....wheres that?????

Sorry mate...didnt realise you were from the Island too!

I am also from the normaly Safe Isle of Wight, I drive the Octavia MK2 and I have the door locking switch,(which is explained in the handbook),which may be in the glovebox or under the passenger seat in the document drawer, which is worth reading sometime, while stuck in a traffic jam maybe!!!!

I've been good...I've read about three-four pages of my Superb handbook...got a bit bored after that.

As soon as I get the car and the handbook I'll be able to find out all the fun bits. The Octavia brochures don't exactly go all out in explaining all the features!!

We havent got remote locking on our Octavia 2 and have to open the door with the key, so then we had to use that button to open the rest of the car.

We later found out that you turn the key once to open the drivers door and twice to open the rest of the car. Its still a pain now, but I dont recall seeing iot in the handbook. I found this out when moaning at poor ray at Winters!!

How much do Winters charge for a service for your Octy?

We went to see them at 10,000 miles thinking it was due then but its not due until 20,000. So its not due for another 5,000 miles or so

I had a 10,000 mile service done there on my Octy 1 TDI about two years ago and it cost me about £160 and that was a basic service...what model do you have???

Superb is a nice looking car. Do you prefer the Octy though ?

Yes and no.....I had an Octy vRS and miss that badly.Saying that the Superb shifts very well being a 2.5TDI.

The Octy 2 is a great basic car for us as a family car which it was meant to be. loads of boot space etc. Fuel economy is good and my other half loves it.

I've only had the Superb for a fortnight and I'm loving it, though I'm still getting used to its size.

If I had the choice and the money I would love a good spec Octavia

I got a full run down of everthing and how it works! Even explained the maxi dot functions and how to set/reset things. Took half an hour over it and at the end of it gave me a bunch of flowers! That last bit seemed a bit strange as I'm a 51 year old bloke  .

Anyway took the label off and gave those to the Mrs.

Also showed me how the lights are on in daytime so having read about it here I asked them to turn it off and they pulled a long wire out of the workshop and re prog'd it there and then.

The problem I found with The Book is that it covers all versions [naturally!] and sometimes you are looking for a feature that doesn't exist on your own car. I found that especially true of the various read-outs. They need a way of writing it so you can go straight to the spec of your own car, even if it is a built-to-order with options. They could do this by colour coding the corners of the pages, as they assemble the particular car. I know this would not help much with retro fitted stuff but it would be a big help during that first week.

You should be able to get the car programmed so that all doors unlock with the first turn of the key. It'll require a visit to the dealer or a bloke with vag-com.
