Reading this topic makes me feel like you guys dont have a BIG problems at all.

I mean 1.9 / 2.0 TDI DPF engines especially octavia -05 -09 and latest passat. The pipe between intercooler and intake manifold? creates condence water at the bottom, when temperature is always up and down like here in Finland. This condence water is fatal to the engine. When pressurised, water goes all the way to 4th cyl. I have read several sad posts from sweden and finland, cylinder head cracks, con rod bends or worse crankshaft breaks. VAG engines don't have a system how to deal with condence water like citroen/peugeot has. This is sad.

This is not a problem in older engines 81-96kw.

There's been large amount of VAG engine failure's in europe. In germany, vw has given a small "update" when having specific symptoms in engine. Skoda hasn't done anything and doesn't admit like VW this is typical engine failure and should be under guarantee. It seems that VAG have a variety of big problems with their later diesels in various markets. There is a version of the 2.0 PD sold in the US which is designated BHW. The BHW engine has a chain drive to the balance shaft module which - of course - due to the torsionals in the chain loading soon becomes wrecked. The oil pump drive is taken (via a highly suspect hexagon shaft coupling) from one end a balance shaft so that when the chain fails, there is no oil pump drive. Later engines have a gear drive to the balance shaft unit.

I think there are two big problems here which will prevent me from ever spending any more serious money with VAG. The first is their total unwillingness to admit to serious design problems and to put them right retrospectively. Secondly, they then produce down market cars such as the Skoda badged versions which incorporate all of the known faults of the earlier models which were sold at a premium price. Rain water ingress is such an example in the Superb.

All cars have trivial issues, but VAG seem to specialise in ones which eventually cause the owner substantial grief. Here is a summary - others may care to add to the list:

Superb UK - rain water ingress (damage to electronics and brake failure).

Superb UK - DPF system unworkable on later PD engines.

Passat USA - BHW engine balance shaft drive.

Superb N Europe - condensate in charge pipe causes engine damage.
